The career diplomat

This is for Joan. Because she actually thinks the little squib is charming.

The boys and I went to the Gay Pride parade yesterday. #4 started working the crowd, typical for any time we let him out of the house. #1 leaned over and said,"Boy did he ever pick the wrong bunch of women to charm!".

That #1 is pretty darned funny. #4 had an entire pickup truck of lesbians in biker shirts just ooh-ing and aah-ing over him, the little squeak. He got the ball rolling by walking right up to the float (these were women in the parade) and saying,"I'm in favour of gay rights, because I am in favour of human rights. And, in case you hadn't noticed, I am a human. Are you in favour of gay rights, too?"

Then came the flatbed truck carrying exercise equipment and plenty of ripped young men using the weights etc. #4 waved and shouted, "Keep pushing, keep pushing, hold...hold....good lift!" and began clapping. Sigh.

His haul for the day: a hat, two t-shirts, two beach balls, and a red AIDS awareness ribbon. He gave his rainbow ribbon to Libby. Even Libs was charmed. #1 and I went home grumbling under our breaths.

I think that is sweet! Aren't you proud. He sees people as people. I hope that never ever changes.

I'm wearing my HRC peace, love and equality bracelet. The CCWs asked what it meant. I told them. They asked "equality for who". I said "humans - all humans should be treated as equals".

Sounds like #4 is well on his way to having a gay agenda too.

Re The career diplomat

That's my boy!!! Makes me so proud!

Diplomat? Oh, that's aiming too low, dear.

This one will be unanimously elected King.

You heard it here first.

Re The career diplomat

I'm scared of him. He'll talk me out of the deed to my house or something.

Send him down for a summer of making 'cue with Slick. That'll learn him right.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby
