A few weeks ago, adopted uncle Trevor called to ask what the boys blood types were. He wanted to have real dog tags made up for them. Since they were all born at home, I didn't know how their blood types, so for science we decided to order the home blood type tests and do them ourselves.
This went reasonably smoothly, even though #4 announced that he was feeling faint from blood loss. After we told him that he had more than 4 drops of blood in his body and therefore could not possibly feelt its absence, and then after he pouted because we were, apparently, trying to kill him by draining him, we came up with four sets of results. We also ended up with four sets of lancets and a bag of biohazard - papers, cotton balls, pipettes, etc.
The next day, I had to run errands, so I bagged up the sharps and other biohazard garbage, and brought it all into the AIDS Committee office where I voulnteer. The man in charge of needle exchange was happy to let me add my sharps to his collection so that they'd be safely disposed of.
After I got home again and was putting away groceries, #4 came into the kitchen and gave me a big hug. This is always cause for alarm if I've been gone. "What happened?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing, I just got to help the lady from the hydro company. She wanted to read the meter, so I made the collies come inside."
That sounded reasonable, we always have to bring in the dogs when she comes to keep them from licking off her skin. The collies like the meter reader. The collies would like a serial killer if he would give them a tummy rub.
"So, is that all you did to help her?" I asked. That seemed to be too routine for him to even brag about.
"No, of course that's not all. I also helped her when she wanted to know how you were. And where you were."
"Ah. And when she wanted to know where I was, what did you say that was so helpful?"
"She said,'Where's your mommy this morning?' and so I said,'She had to take some used needles to the needle exchange at the AIDS Committee office. After she's done doing that, she said she would come right home".
So, if CPS come for them, I hope they'll take him first.
