This was always the big bribe at our house, and our friends are always invited to congratulate the newest member of the diaper-free club.
When my oldest was training, my best friend's daughter was really reluctant to try, so I told her all about our party, and how she could come, too, if she would train for her mum.
She agreed, and trained in nearly no time at all. Her mum was thrilled, and my son was really excited to have a friend to share his party with.
So, I ordered a fancy cake from the local kosher bakery, and had it specially decorated. It was a large sheet cake, and I even bought a cute little plastic potty from a doll set to place on top. The writing on the cake was supposed to say "Congratulations Avraham and Caitlin! You're potty trained!"
I bought balloons, gifts, and goody bags. I went to the bakery and was handed a large box all tied up with ribbons- I thought that was such a nice touch. That evening, after we had our dinner, CAitlin's mom and I opened the cake box, and took out the cake.
RAther, someone else's cake, because on top was written, "Happy Fiftieth Anniversary, Hy and Goldie!"
Of course, the kids couldn't read- but I am pretty sure that all of Hy and Goldie's relatives were surpised as heck to get the half pink, half blue cake with a tiny plastic potty on top!
Anyway, assuming that all goes well, parties are excellent behaviour modification tools.
