Looking for a mine...

A friend of mine wants to work in a PA mine this summer.

I immediately thought of an old thread on here. I think someone posted a link to a story about a mine in PA. Then someone who worked for that mine stumbled upon the thread, and thought that EA was a place to vent his frustrations about the mine. He talked about the dismemberments, and deaths, as well as deplorable working conditions.

I am hoping someone remembers the name of that mine. I'm also hoping I can narrow my search terms because "mine" brings up too many posts and "mining" brings up too few.

Thank you if you can help.

Re Looking for a mine...

I need to ask why a friend of yours would want to work in a mine, in this day and age? Especially with the amount of dangers that have recently been all over the news???

Re Looking for a mine...

He thinks he will get a lot of money.

He's a geology major so he thinks it will be something he is interested in.

He lives in PA so I assume they're close to where he lives.

Re Looking for a mine...

It depends. There are mines in the north, up around Lakawana county, and out in the west, but I think there are better ways for a geology major to learn the trade. Unless he is planning to buy and operate a mine someday.

There are mines, but not all over the state. There are more areas without mines than those with a mine. And many mines are closed.

Re Looking for a mine...

I think he's thinking about the money more than anything.

Anyone know what mine the guy on here was writing about. I remember thinking his posts were so in left field that I ended up googling the mine at the time and all I found was violation after violation and people getting seriously hurt there.

Now I've tried more and more search terms on here and I can't find it. Someone else has to remember it. It's rare that we get someone new around here that is so passionate about one particular thing I can't remember how many years ago it was, but it seems like I found posts older than the thread(s) I'm thinking about.

It seems to my hazy memory that people who lived closer to that mine had heard of it when he was discussing it

Re Looking for a mine...

I remember that thread, but IIRC it was a chemical factory in Texas. I'll see if I can find the link.

Re Looking for a mine...

Jeff made some comments about the Sago mine when that one went kablooie a while back, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

Re Looking for a mine...

No, I did find the Sago mine post. That was not it, however. Sad, sad story none the less.
