| | Workout headaches | | I'm not talking about the trouble to get to a gym, or changing weight plates, or any such headaches.
I am talking actual migraine-level, temple-pounding headaches.
I've had them since Tuesday, and they have just started lessening.
I went to the doctor this morning, prompt-care walk-in clinic.
I have headaches because I exercised too much on Monday. I have a friend staying with me who is, well, let's just say he's a bit gung-ho on the workout side. He knows my current condition (that's why he's here, to help me as I prepare to move) but thought he could 'motivate' me to do a 'mild' workout.
Truth be told, even just a few years ago the few things I did would have been laughably easy. So easy in fact I'm embarrassed to tell you just how little I did. But the next day I was stiff all over, then Wednesday I was positively sore all over, with a throbbing headache beginning Tuesday and only beginning to lessen now.
I'd never had this before.
So, we're going to work up a ridiculously easy programme for me to follow, that will gently increase in difficulty. And my friend will now get stuck not just with most but all of the heavy lifting as I begin to move things into storage.
But, at least I tried. |

| | Kurt, I hope you feel better soon!
Make sure you drink plenty of water. I just had this conversation with my intern yesterday - not enough water will cause headaches, especially if you have over-caffinated yourself that day.
Keep up working out...I'm cheering for you!
Lynn

| | I'm so sorry that you've had these bad headaches! Hope its all better soon!
Keep your workouts super easy until you're ready for more. Even just a brisk walk can be a great workout plan. |

| | Walking is high on the agenda.
My friend Mark is a fanatic about all sorts of aerobics. I guess we'll plan to go to the park and he can run the trail 10 times or so while I walk around it once.
Gee, if that isn't going to be demoralising... |

| But you can't think of it that way.
YOU do what YOU can do.
MARK does what HE can do.
Exercise is just like life, Kurt. We all have our talents and our strengths as well as our shortcomings. When we focus on our talents and what we CAN do, we drive ourselves to be better persons.
When we focus on our shortcomings, we make ourselves miserable.
If Mark wants to encourage you to be more active by going out with you, he'll do the right thing. I don't know him, so I'm not sure that he'll run 10x...he might just stick by your side to encourage you! And there is nothing wrong with either scenario.

| | He will probably walk around with me (he nods) and then I'll sit and read while he runs around. He runs a lot so I'll take a long book.
Yes, I know not to compare myself but Mark and I ran races together just five years ago, and I won.
Actually, Mark is standing behind me thumping me on the head as I write this.
OW!
Mark is one of my best friends, and he's here for two weeks helping me box, store and move things. |

| | Mark! Quit thumping Kurt on the head, please.
Come to think of it Kurt, maybe you've found the source of your headache?

Maybe. I wish he could stick around longer. He likes epinions though, so maybe he'll stick around online. |

Yes, I am trying. Hopefully I'll start succeeding. It is nice to have face-to-face friends around, in addition to my friends here at EA. |

| | Kurt, I'm sorry to hear about your migraines. Is it coincidence that I've been researching calcium tonight and found out that a calcium deficiency can cause migraines? It would seem exercise excess is to blame, but then maybe it's the underlying problem (calcium deficiency) coming out. I read an interview with the leading calcium expert who says AdvaCAL works better than milk or anything. http://www.lanelabs.com/Products/Advacal/index.html

| | I will remember that. I do drink a lot of milk, but have been drinking less the last several months (milk costs money whereas the water is free) so maybe there has been a calcium shift in my system.
Thanks! |

| | You're welcome! If milk doesn't help fast enough, try tofu, its more absorbable calcium. :-)

| | I'm going to start getting various supplements from the community kitchen, who provide them for free. Fortunately I have a history of being generous with the kitchen and the homeless shelter -- they will help me now that I need the help. | | |
