I'm not quite 5'3", buy petite length pants, and my stride length is 2.4. When I bought my pedometer, the sales clerk offered to measure for me and his procedure was:
Start with both feet behind a line. Take 10 strides. Measure from the line to the toe of your shoe. Divide by 10. Is this what you did? Quote: Originally posted by taurusmoon Very few people are willing to walk with me a second time. Just ask Amy. | Deb

Stepping for the sheer torture of it
P.S. It's 7:15 and I only have 5413 steps in. Things are not looking good.
P.P.S. Is the postal service hiring?

| I'm sorry, Sara.
I managed to slam my goal in....doing absurd things like walking to the car to meet Don who was picking me up...I mean walking toward him as he was driving. Pretty surprised to see me by the side of the road.
I exhausted the poodle.
And myself.
The way I figure it, I have to have 5000 steps before I even hit work (which isn't easy). I did that today with a morning walk and then running around the house getting ready for the cleaning lady, etc. etc.
I can count on work for 5000 more, unless it is a very good day (like yesterday), and then I have to come up with 3000 more in the evening (which isn't easy either).
Andrea
trying to remember, um, pride goes before , before the Spring?
* edited after seeing Sara's response above Autumn! that's it...lovely girl's name. was that what I was thinking of?

| | I have a hell of a time getting any steps in during the day. I generally get home from work with only 3,000 under my belt. And that often includes the 800 or so I accumulate before I leave the house in the morning.
Factor in an insane week like this when I have absolutely no time for myself and I'm sunk.
Sara
Who is at 8,937 at 10:06 pm. 13,073+? Yeah right.

Blech.
You can't let yourself get unduly stressed over it, but that would be the problem with the addictive/compulsive/obsessive personality type we have, wouldn't it? It's unbeatable for gas/fuel when trying to accomplish something, but gets awfully toxic when circumstances get in the way. Sort of like your best friend turning on you.
Like I said earlier. I'm only loaning you the lecture. Return it to me when I need a month from now (or sooner!)
Andrea

| | Too late Andrea. I forced myself to get on the bike. Unfortunately, I had to get off before I planned to because a squirrel managed to chew a hole through my bathroom wall. Don't ask.
I leave for vacation in about 13 hours. Did I pack yet? No. But I did make my step goal.
Priorities suck.

| God. Are we alike.
Some people would call it "inability to keep perspective" or possibly just "tendency toward insane obsession". I prefer to think of it as razor sharp focus.
Why do I think you might forget to pack underwear, but won't forget your 7 color coordinated pedometers, all set to different time zones.
Andrea
who wishes you a wonderful vacation!!!!

| | I have a shocking confession to make. I think I (gasp) like my Digiwalker more than my SportBrain. I am so ashamed.
Why? Its quite simple - instant feedback and time. It takes 2 seconds to put in my steps each day, not sitting there waiting for it to upload. Also, I LOVE being able to check how many steps each activity takes.
What I will miss is the heartrate monitor and logging. |

I was wondering about that, Michael. Never having been a Sportsbrainer, I wasn't sure exactly how they worked -- but I can't imagine keeping myself going forward the way I have been without the immediate gratification of seeing the numbers going up. I just got "happy" about cleaning up the kitchen because I got 500 steps doing it.
Still, I would have loved the online upload. Way cool.
Andrea
who loves her Digiwalker, too -- Sara's must be possessed or something
