Don't feel threatened, it's Thursday's Good Stuff! 5/8

Weather's nasty here today. Hoping we don't have a repeat of Sunday's severe stuff, but it's not looking good.

Don't feel threatened by things that are out of your control...do what you can to mitigate them, but don't let them get you all stressed out. This can include your image of yourself....I got an email this morning celebrating Beautiful Women month edited to say I think most of these emails and special "months" are stupid and I don't pass them along and liked a couple of points:

Marilyn Monroe wore a size 14.

If Barbie was a real woman, she'd have to walk on all fours due to her proportions.

The average woman weighs 144 lb. and wears between a 12-14.

One out of every four college aged women has an eating disorder.

The models in the magazines are airbrushed-not perfect!

A psychological study in 1995 found that three minutes spent looking at a fashion magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty, and ashamed.

So don't feel intimidated by unrealistic portrayals of how you SHOULD look or feel...be fabulous in your own self and the goals you have for your self.

Have a wonderful, non-threatening Thursday.

Lynn

Well, my whine from yesterday turned into today's happiness.

I went to see an allergist about my antibiotic allergies. Turns out that the penicillin allergy I was diagnosed with at 7 months old may have been in error. I got skin tests, and although they weren't 100% clear-cut, it looks like I'm either non-allergic or at least it will take a couple times, probably, before I get sensitized.

Also, doctors have been assuming that because my eyelids swell when I take the other antibiotics I'm allergic to (in addition to facial rash), it's an anaphylactic reaction, which is the type where they really don't want to give you the antibiotic because it's dangerous. But the allergist says that given the time frame involved (it usually takes a few days for me to react), it looks like it isn't an anaphylactic reaction.

This means I can take antibiotics again! Sure, it'll lead to a whole LOT of discomfort. But better that than simply having no treatment options when I get a sinus infection or strep throat!

I did resistance bands this morning for an hour or so, with ab exercises. Two sets of push-ups.

I finished my reading for one of my last classes, then read another book for a paper I researched (and already wrote, but wanted to finish the book because it was interesting) and then I got to read for pleasure IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!!! And I got a hair or two cut.

I only felt threatened by the weather. It's getting so darned hot and humid!!! It's really hard to run in this. I did 3 miles though. I actually have a new running friend - my Surviver Buff. I actually wore the darned thing in public. Put it on my head to keep my hair back - tied a little knot in the back like I'm authentic or something. If it didn't really help with the heat, I would have felt really stupid!

It's one of those rags the people on Survivor wear.
