| | Well, I broke even this week. Which is sort of depressing since I had lost a pound and a half earlier in the week but managed to find it again this weekend. Oddly though, the jeans I bought this past Tuesday (and fit well then) are a little loose on me now.
I've been managing my diet just fine, so the only thing I can attribute the gain to is being remiss in my water consumption. While at work, I keep a loaded 32-oz bottle on my desk and sip from it throughout the day. But, when I'm not there (which was the case for the past three days), I have trouble remembering to drink up. With the increase in the intensity of my workouts, my continued dieting and my less than ideal hydration, I'm sure that my body is freaking out and holding on to every last drop water it has.
So, my goal for the week is to make sure I drink that water, in the office or not.
On a different note, I went to visit my doctor on Tuesday (I go every six week for monitoring) and got some good news...
I had blood and blood pressure taken a few days before I started dieting and went back for more of the same six weeks later (5 weeks and 2 days into my diet). I got the first set of results on my return visit last week.
In 5 weeks, my cholesterol dropped from 180 to 165 (LDL 120, HDL 45). Not bad considering that 180 isn't too bad to begin with. There wasn't all that much room for improvement.
Triglycerides dropped from 85 to 76. Ditto on the above sentiment.
Blood pressure (which was heading into borderline territory) is coming down. From 135/95 to 126/82 in less than 12 weeks.
There's so much more benefit to taking control than meets the eye. Yeah, I've dropped 2 sizes, but I'm also getting healthier. Guess it's no surprise that I feel better too.
Never in my life have I been looking forward to a doctor visit. I go back in 5 weeks for more tests and to get the results of last week's bloodwork. I can't wait.

| | I've got good news and bad news.
The bad news is: my first official weigh in to join your illustrious group of losers is taking place on the single highest PMS/water weight gain day of the month. It's bad. I never ever ever weigh myself this time of month.
The good news is: I bet I drop five pounds by next weigh in day. I swear if someone stuck a pin in me, I wouldn't bleed, I'd just spurt water. That should all be gone a week from now. I'll be the biggest loser of all!!
Now, forgetting loser me --
Go, Sara!
Sara that is so fantastic. You really can't give a flying leap about the scale numbers (I know, I know, I'm a numbers person too!)...but it is way worse to have the numbers going the way you want and not see the jeans getting smaller.
I swear that the only way to really measure weight loss and gain is through the Jeans Method. I have jeans from size 8 all the way to size 16. When I lost weight before, I rarely weighed myself, maybe only once a month...I just tracked my "numbers" by the size of the jeans I could fit into.
What a joy for you to find the jeans you just bought feeling looser!!
Andrea
bloated and feeling like she couldn't fit into a pair of XXXXL sweatpants today :

| | Sara, that is sensational! You're certainly motivating me!
If I decide to believe the scale, I have lost 3 pounds in the 3 weeks since I moved. Not bad.
My goals for this week include cutting down on the sitting-in-front-of-the-computer snacks, drinking more water, and taking at least 6000 steps a day.
Here's to everyone sticking to their goals!
Cindy

| | Oh, Cindy, believe the scale!
Forgot to put my goals on my post....forgive me, I'm new at this.
I'm not going on diet. My goals are
1) Increase activity a bit. I'd like to do 10,000 steps a day. That seems reasonable since I end up walking a lot during the day...but I have to see what happens today at work. I might not be walking as much as I think I am, hence 10,000 might not be reasonable.
2) Eat better stuff. I don't even care if I eat less, I just have to stop piling crap in. Cheesesteaks for lunch = no!
3) Drink water, lots of water.
This isn't the fastest way to lose pounds, but, I don't feel like starting on some grand program and going down in flames.
Andrea

| | Weeellll...Don't let anyone ever tell you that staying on program during a vacation is easy.
I gained 3/4 pound this week (According to the good ol' WW scale) courtesy, I am sure, to a torrid series of "one-night-stands" with the butter dish (I went nuts after having absolutely no butter for nine weeks) and the cookie jar (It kept calling out to me, I SWEAR!).
The local liquor store was also happy I stopped by for a week's vacation. By the end of the week, the clerk and I were on a first name basis.
Sigh...
Siren songs from cookie crockery aside, I got right back on program when I returned from vacation--but I think it was too little, too late.
Oh well, onward and upward.

| | 3/4 of a pound in a week? Hell, I can do that in 5 minutes!
Honestly, you were gone for a week and managed to pretty much maintain your weight. That's not bad. Not bad at all.
And there's no such thing as too little too late. You're back on track now, that's all that matters.
Sara
Who goes on vacation tomorrow. Gulp.

| | I'm late (crazy week) but finally got weighed this mornig and ... I've dropped 2 pounds!!!!! It's a start.
Unfortunately my plans to walk the neighborhood were rained out and my 10 minutes on the trampoline were cut to 5 when I realized I couldn't breath! :o
Baby steps - but heading in the right direction!
Congrats to all the losers!
