| | EA Losers Club: Monday Weigh-In | | What's the progress with your weight/size program?
My wedding dress is at the cleaner's being pressed so I haven't had the chance to try it on yet and see if it still fits, but my other clothes have been okay so this one should be too. Or maybe I'll just hold my breath through the entire ceremony!

| | Well, I'm five pounds lighter than I was last Monday!
Now, before anyone starts shooting off the fireworks (or throwing rocks!), let me remind you all that I was highly PMS and chock full of water last week. It is possible that a pound or two of that might be real weight loss, but I'll never really know.
I'm going to use this weight (one I like much better!!) as my starting point, rather than last week's water obscured figure.
Okay, 25 pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight, 15 pounds to the I-can-live-with-it weight.
BTW, I was looking at myself in the mirror the other day, something I try to avoid, and was amazed at how much my body has changed since my 20s. I used to gain weight so evenly you'd barely notice it over 5' 10"... this 25 pounds has all settled smack on my tummy, thighs and butt.

| | Just did the weigh-in, and I'm down one pound this week. This brings the total to four pounds lost during the past three or four weeks. Amazing! This is all due to increased activity, as I'm not really changing much about what I am eating!
This morning I put on a skirt I haven't worn in several months. It's pretty form fitting around the hips. I looked in the mirror and said, "Hey! Where'd my hips go?" I seem to have lost some volume around that area. I have also noticed some definite muscle definition developing in my legs. I could live with this.
Eleven pounds to go to reach my first weight goal, eighteen-ish pounds to my ultimate goal!

| | I'm joining the club. I don't have a scale at home and haven't been to a doctor in the past year . . . but I stayed in a hotel over the weekend that had an official scale in their exercise room. One where you push the little metal bars over and over and over to the right. I've gained 10 pounds in the last 18 months.
So, I'm setting an initial goal of losing 15 pounds (the equivalent of 5 3-lb. cans of Crisco) and a longer term goal of losing a total of 25 pounds. Even a 5 lb. loss would be noticeable on my 5'3" frame but I want to lose enough to justify buying a few new clothes.
Unfortunately, my metabolism is pretty well stuck. For the most part, I can stuff myself or starve and my weight doesn't fluctuate by much. The weight I've gained has a direct correlation with how much time I'm spending sitting in this computer chair instead of up and moving around.
So . . . count me in.
Deb

| | Just back from a 5 day vacation and stepped on the scale this morning with a bit of trepidation.
I knew I had kept to my diet just fine while I was away, but, being one of those nuts who has to weigh in every day (No, not you Sara! ) I had missed the daily ups and downs and wasn't sure what to expect.
Whew.
I lost 1.5 pounds last week. Nothing to write home about, but it certainly could have gone a lot worse. I'll take it.

| | Well after a mostly virtuous week I can report that I lost 1/4 pound.
Frankly I don't know whether to or
Guess I'll just
I am glad that I lost weight, believe me. I just think that this means I am entering the phase of my diet where the plateauing will set in.
I am bummed because I know that the last 10 lbs. (that's all...a measly ten frickin' pounds) is going to be a bitch to get off. I need some encouragement here people!

| | Cyndi,
First of all, you lost 1/4 pound. That's far better than gaining it.
Secondly, be happy that you're in the homestretch. Remember what is was like before?
Thirdly, losing it this way will make maintenance much easier.
Finally, you've done an outstanding job. A slight stall does not change that. There's no denying it. YOU'RE A LOOSAH!
How'd I do? Encouraging enough?
Sara
Who is so glad that her scale doesn't measure 1/4 lb. increments. 1/2 pounds are enough to fret over.

| | All true Sara...
And thank you, I do feel better.
I think I'm not exactly discouraged...just worried.
I don't want to quit now when I have come so far...but it would be easy to do because it's the same *#@!!&% 10 pounds I have been trying to lose since I first gained them. I don't look too bad with it...but I would look sooooo much better without it.

| | Grump, grump. I've gained a pound so far this week and I've been watching my food intake and walking even when I don't want to. My calf and abdominal muscles are feeling the effects of all the stretching and toning exercises and I can't even call myself a sore loser.

You'll always be a loser to me, no matter what the scale says.
Now you know you can't go by how a scale goes up and down throughout a week. We all watch it, but we all know we can't go by that.
Eventually, if we stop putting in more than we put out, eventually, we all have to lose.
And then we win.
But until then, just think like a loser!!
Andrea
speechifying because she hasn't actually started trying to really lose poundage, it is soooooooo easy from this side.

I want to let you in on a little secret...come a little closer, I need to whisper... I hate to exercise because at first there is nothing but a gain on the scale
Well I hate the sweating and the pain too...but that isn't exactly a secret...
Exercise = acidosis = fluid retention = weight gain.
The good news is that the muscle swelling is short term--and all the pain and the extra fluid will disappear if you continue to exercise.
I'd be willing to bet that if you continue watching your eating, staying with your walking program and drinking lots of water to help keep your system flushed, you will in fact be a big time Loosah--next week.
What'll you wager Ms. Deb?

If I gain another pound next week though . . .

92 degrees in my living room and the only thing that is holding me back from that pint of Cherry Garcia is that I'm sitting here in my underwear and I'd have to pass by an open window to get it and my neighbors are working in their yard

| Works for me.
I've got some heavy duty atoning to do today. Last night, one of my nieces was bummed - her sister had been invited to a water party - so I grabbed her and we went to the Scandinavian Festival in a nearby town. I figured I could get in a few thousand steps while guzzling all that lovely no-fat water. After an hour of viewing the sights, we stopped to rest in the shade. Suddenly, I realized that I had consumed half of her funnel cake - one bit and bite at a time. A funnel cake!!
I know of no diet where funnel cakes are approved. (If anyone knows of one, please let me know immediately.)
I can resist temptation. When I recognize it. This little opportunity sneaked up and bit me in the butt. Which now, will be just that much larger. Sigh.
