| | Well, I don't know about Cindys having more fun, but this Cindy did lose some weight. Two pounds, in fact! T-w-o! This amazes me because it wasn't a great week stepping-wise. Though I suppose that getting on my school schedule has something to do with it. My class and I eat lunch at 10:50, and then I don't have dinner ready until around 7:00.
Two pounds brings me to six pounds lost. Two pounds also brings me to my pre-Epinions weight!!! Yippee!!! Epinions (at least, sitting on my butt in front of the Epinions screen) put the weight on, and now my Epinions friends are helping me take the weight off!
My current loss is six pounds. Nine pounds to my first goal, 16 pounds to my ultimate goal! I have never lost more than three or four pounds trying by myself, so I'm sure I can keep going with all of your support.
Cindy the loosah

| | Woohoo Cindy! Weigh to go!
I'm curious as to how the other authentic Cindys did. Because, this pseudo-Cindy didn't do as well as she wanted to.
One pound down. One ferschtunkinah pound.
Yes, I know I should be happy, but things have slowed down to a crawl. My average weight loss (until recently) has been about 2.5 pounds a week. The past 4 weeks I've only managed a pound each. Cinditude doesn't seem to be working for me.
And, yes, I will have some cheese with my whine.

| | Hmmmm, I seem to have hit a "period" of water weight fluctuation. I weighed myself yesterday and was down a pound...and this AM I find I'm up a pound. :p
I'd guess that means I'm about the same. :p
The rest of you are losers!. I'm just a non-gainer.

| I know, Sara, I know. You're in the hardest spot now...I had to lose nearly 50 pounds after that second baby of mine. After a couple of months the initial head rush of "dieting" wears off, the weight loss starts to slow down, the scale isn't the happy friend it was in the beginning...just hang in there with us. Chances are good that you'll hit another patch where the weight starts coming off faster, and in the meantime, we are all having quite a bit of fun.
Easy for me to say, since I haven't started trying to lose yet. I'm as big a maniac about that as I've been about the stepping. You should see me calculate, count and record fat grams and calories.
That is why God made Excel, isn't it???

| | Congrats to all the losers and non-gainers!
I never did weigh last week. The day moved on, it became late, and I didn't want to totally depress myself. So I waited until today to weigh.
Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
So, I'll go for an initial loss of 10 lbs. And we'll see what happens. Guess it's time for me to get serious about this, eh?

| | I think I need a new scale. One that measures in ounces.
Although my scale shows a total loss of one pound for the week, I feel thinner. My jeans are a bit easier to zip, I feel less fat in my shorts, and I can clip my bras on the second set of hooks instead of the last set.
It should be more than a pound, but I guess I'll take it and see what happens next week.

Sara | Sara, you and I need to make a pact to : every loss no matter how small.
I know how you feel (let's go back and review my post of 2 weeks ago in the weight loss thread, shall we?) but let me turn your very wise advice to me back on you And I Quote... Quote:
First of all, you lost.... That's far better than gaining it.
Secondly, be happy that you're in the homestretch. Remember what is was like before?
Thirdly, losing it this way will make maintenance much easier.
Finally, you've done an outstanding job. A slight stall does not change that. There's no denying it. YOU'RE A LOOSAH!
|
I hope this makes you feel as positive about your future as a "big time loosah" as it did at the time for me.

| | Way to go ladies! Look at all the progress in this thread alone!
This was very uplifting for me to read.
For those of you who may have hit a plateau, which does happen with weightloss and muscle build up, what are some things you can do to kind of "jump start" your metabolism and get you off the plateau and back to the downhill slide?

Short of sawing off a limb and stepping on the scale, I'm without a clue. I figure I'll just keep plodding away and something will have to give in due time. Might be my weight, might be my sanity. Only time will tell.
Sara
Stuck, but grateful that the direction is still downward. Slow, but downward nonetheless

| | What about adding some extra cardio to your usual routine? Such as walking hills instead of a flat trail or going to an aerobics class. But in doing this, you would need to keep your dietary habits and intake on an even keel so that the extra cardio would jump start your metabolism again.

| | That's just the thing. My eating has been on an even keel all this time. No cheats in more than 3 months. None whatsoever.
And, I try to make my workouts as tough as possible (considering my state of -- or lack of -- fitness). I do tons of hills each time I walk. In fact, I seek out the hilliest paths. I've been trying to pick up the pace as much as I can, and when I'm stuck indoors on the bike, I try to kick up both the resistance and my speed.
Weather permitting, I'm usually at it for at least an hour and I often try for more than that. Except for the bike thing, I usually average 40 minutes or so when I'm stuck doing that.
I have an appointment scheduled with my doctor for the 4th. If I don't break out of this rut by then I'll discuss other options with him. For his sake, let's hope I don't have to.

| | If you are really worried that you are stuck on a hopeless plateau ask your doctor to schedule a consult with a nutritionist--assuming of course that everything is okee-dokee physically. They are very helpful folk.
I would add however, that losing 1-2 pounds a week on average is a reasonable goal to shoot for. For example I have lost a total of 22.25 pounds in 12 weeks -- an average weight loss of about 1.85 pounds per week.
What is your average weekly weight loss over the course of your fitness program? (This is a rhetorical question of course ) If you are somewhere within the 1-2 pound range per week on average you are doing about as well as could be expected.
But I bet you didn't want to hear that, did you...

| | Well I will never understand the capricious nature of the scale.
The weeks where I am "virtue personified" are the weeks where I lose 1/4 pound.
This week however, I was not without sin. Pizza, beer, a couple of margaritas, buttered popcorn at the movies (The list goes on but why depress myself anymore than I already am?)
I still managed to lose 1 3/4 pounds.
This is wonderful...But why?

| | Woohoo Cyndi! Or is that Cyndiwoohoo?
My theory? You caught your body by surprise. It's gotten used to holding onto every last bit of fat because it's felt that it's been threatened with starvation. Adding a few calories allowed it to let its guard down a bit.
You sneak you.
