Our little 2-year old stallion got loose today and I had to help catch the little bugger. This is the colt who has cut himself up, digs UNDER fences to get in with the mares, and is just in general a pest.
So while catching him, I am hanging on for dear life to the lead rope while he's running away as fast as he can. Rope runs through my right hand, causing pretty severe rope burns across my palm and all four fingers. They blistered this a.m., I submerged my hand in a bucket of cool water for about two hours, put on aloe a couple of times. The blisters have subsided, but the skin's tough, tight, and it's difficult to do anything (right handed, of course.)
I found a web site that describes what you are supposed to do for burns...to my surprise, they classified rope burns with the same treatment as any other heat or chemical-related burns. From their advice, I think I did the right things. I'm just hoping to heal up fast.
I hope no one tries to shake hands with me tomorrow.

Oh Lynn! That must hurt so badly! I don't really have advice on what to do - other than cool water. Should you keep them open or bandaged? No carrots for that horse! |

Open unless the skin comes off. I'm at least not screaming in agony this afternoon, and typing is okya except I keep making mistakes a la Wormie. 
No carrots...HA. That's the least of his problems. I told brianne as I was downing Motrin that I had a bottle of painkillers if worst came to worst. She said "MOM!" and I told her "not for me...I'm gonna mix the whole bottle in that horse's feed! Bastard!"
I'm hoping I can put on lotion without causing any damage...the burning sensation is gone, but the skin where the blisters were is really tight and dry.

Uh, April I think. We call him Buddy. He just doesn't have a regiestered name yet (so that's okay!) The other girl is C-My Belle of the Ball...she's quite a looker.
Now wait just one second. You're feeling sorry for the horses because they have no names? What about me? This is supposed ot be all about me and my owie!!! ME ME ME ME ME!!!!
Maybe I should take a photo of my hand and psost it. Then ya'll'd feel sorry for me.

I counted. There are 19 seperate blisters. The largest, on my pinky, is probably the size fo a 18mm bead.
Now that's sad. I can measure my owies by bead size.
Melanie doesn't get any sympathy from me because she was doing something noble when she got her owie.
I was just tyring to stop a stupid stallion.

If you were a guy, Lynn, you would have had a pair of gloves! My husband always has a pair of gloves handy. Sometimes I know I would be a lot stronger if I had on a pair of gloves!
I'm sorry for your pain. I know people say horses aren't as smart as some other animals but I tend to disagree. I've been maimed many times and I KNOW it was on purpose. Damn horses!
