Private Diabetes Discussion Forum Opens

(cross-posted from Announcements...so sue me)

Several regulars have diabetes or an immediate family member who has diabetes. This chronic disease can shorten lives, cause horrible complications and will change the way the diabetic lives the remainder of their life.

EA has opened a PRIVATE support forum for diabetics and their immediate family members. This forum is NOT visible to the rest of the board and anyone who violates confidences shared in there will be removed.

It is a safe place to ask questions, offer advice and encouragement or just be around others who understand.

Send me a PM (private message) if you would like to join.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Re Private Diabetes Discussion Forum Opens

The little old lady I drive to church on Sunday morning has Type II and a co-worker has Type I, two friends from college have Type II... guess I'm curious why you feel it has to be a private forum - I don't see it as one of those rare diseases people are still embarassed about having. Unless y'all are going to discuss really personal side effects or something

MJ, in talking with a couple of people, they don't want their condition known in public nor do they feel comfortable talking about some of the side effects. I guess it view as something for our EA family. The American Diabetes Association and several other sites provide awesome resources. This is something for our EA family.

If that changes over time, and the group feels comfortable with their medical information spread throughout the web, then I have no problem flipping the switch.

Frankly, we have had private areas for gossip, money isssues and kids, and I view all of those as much less sensitive than someone talking about their medical conditions.

It's a sweet idea, but it has much less to do with the disease's rarity than with the people who want privacy.
