| | Max, are you allergic to Benadryl itself or the dyes in it? |

| | I was going to ask about the topical Benadryl we get for #4 after he gets bitten by mosquitos. That stuff is great! And I hope you feel better soon. |

| | Max, just for your general information, the homeopathic remedy rhus toxihedron is a specific for treating poison ivy. It may be too late to do you any good now, but consider keeping some on hand for the next time you get into the poison ivy.

I have a bottle still, and it's horribly expired but it still works and I won't give it up for the world. |

I'm so sick of the nanny state. If gits overdose, that isn't my problem when I want to use something correctly. |

| | I don't know for sure what part of it I'm allergic too, but it was the kids stuff which is clear so I'm not sure it was any dye. I just generally try to stay away from it to be safe, since I ended up in the ER the last time I took it.
Doing a bit better today, the nights are still the worst. Unfortunately the meds I'm taking make me super tired, and so I just wish I were home in bed right now instead of at work.

| | Max,
Do you have a Medic-Alert for that benadryl allergy? It's a routine treatment for other allergies and they give it in whopping doses intravenously pretty much when you hit the ER door.

| | No I don't, I didn't know it was necessary, nobody has ever said anything about it before. I'm also allergic to latex, although not severely yet.

| | Pippa's right. Latex allergy definitely deserves a Medic-Alert. You can get both on the same medallion. I have 3 on mine, plus "call immediately" because I wouldn't let them put more on for fear that the font would get too small for anyone to read.

| | Judy, we must be twins. Although I just have latex and sulfa on mine with the call immediately.
Max, I procrastinated forever in getting one. Even after a git resident when I had Beanie came at me with latex gloves on arguing the whole time with G that they were latex-free. He made her go get the package out of the trash... sure enough, she was wrong. I figure with the bracelet, at least when I stop breathing, they'll know why. |

| | Wow, I never even thought about having the ID bracelets. Jer is allergic to sulfa, maybe he should wear one too.

| | Lynn,
Depends on what Jer's reaction to sulfa is. If he just gets a rash, and you trust him to remember, he can tell them. It's not a first-line drug you'd give in the ER or pre-hospital. If the reaction is more serious, he should have a medic-alert medallion.
Pippa,
Latex, Diabetes, Difficult to intubate. The rest of the list includes sulfa and something NOBODY ever believes -- I'm allergic to Erythromycin.
I went to a Doc-in-the-Box place once for a sinus infection when I couldn't get an appointment in a reasonable time. He asked if I was allergic to anything (but not what). When he came back with the scrip for Erythromycin, I said, "Yep. That's the one."

| | Hey, I once had a doc-in-the-box prescribe Macrobid. Four days and a Benadryl coma later, I finally looked it up. |

| | Pays to be paranoid sometimes -- but how did the pharmacist manage to fill the prescription if you told them about your sulfa allergy?

| | My very favorite pharmacist left the Eckerd I went to. I'm not sure the new ones looked at my list of allergies.
I did call the pharmacy though, once I looked it up. I had asked the doc-in-a-box SEVERAL times about the sulfa allergy. |
