| | MJ | | If this is your migraine can you please take it back!
Got a killer headache last night. Took tylenol PM and went to sleep with an ice pack on my head. Woke up with a pounding headache. Took 2 Excedrin Migraine. Felt better till about 2 hours ago. Now I'm this close to tears. It's a bad one. Your not supposed to take more than 2 Excedrin in 24 hours, so I took 2 Advil Migraine. So far I just want to cry. |

| | No Rx? No Amerge or Fiornol? If it's lasted that long and held up against those meds, I'd call the doc for a stronger med or head to the ER (or one of those ER clinics or whatever) for an IV medication. Poor baby, I feel for ya

| | I don't take the RX till its really bad, and since I took the others I couldn't take it. And for some reason I don't carry them with me - I need to start. She's given me Balbubatol (I know thats all wrong, but its something like that). I used to take Fiorocet way back when. Maybe I need to ask for for something else. I feel like someone is stepping on my head and my brain hurts. |

| | Butalbitol - that's Fiornol, just the generic name. And yes, you should carry them. And yes, you should take out the Big Guns at the first sign that it will be One of Those Headaches. (Listen to me, Hubby would be cracking up if he read this 'cause I always delay taking my Rx ) Anyway, what happens is the more we let our headaches grow to the OMG point, the more likely our headaches will regularly go to the OMG point because we're developing nerve pathways for the pain. The more often we let the pain go down the path, the better marked the trail is for the next headache. We gotta cut 'em off at the pass.
Fiornol doesn't cut it for me any more, but Amerge is a life-saver. I first got it when I had that awful 3-day headache and it's still working for me now (knock on wood) two years later. When I actually take it.
Call the doc and see what she says regarding the meds. I know the directions are written that you can't take more than X at a time, but some of them you can take more, if the doctor says it's OK. (Like Advil x 4 = 1 prescription-strength Motrin dose or what have you.) She can also let you know if what you've already taken will keep you from taking the Rx.
Are you at work? How are you getting home?

| | Yes, I'm at work. Brian made me promise to stop and buy something with protein to eat before I drive home. The Advil Migraine have helped a bit. I'm no longer crying. |

| | Fioricet is the barbituate butalbital (aka Fiorinal) plus acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) plus caffeine (aka Dunkindonutol). Luckily, it works for me. I rarely ever have to take it (which is good because I'm a little afraid of habit-forming barbituates) but I find that the caffeine is a big help. But that's just me.
Maggie has had a migraine for days, and Zomig is helping a bit, but it comes back after a few hours. I have no idea what Zomig is. |

| | I used to take Fioricet when I had really horrific migraines several times a week. It helped. Thankfully I don't get migraines that often anymore. Caffiene does help a lot, but it can have a rebound effect too. |

| | Mine is butalbitol, aspirin, and caffeine - not the tylenol compound.

| | Don't boo me but I haven't had a headache in 13 years. That's when I had heart problems and the doc put me on an asprin a day. I guess it's a trade off. |

| | Actually, Slick, I was just about to ask why none of the frequent migraine sufferers use beta blockers. I had my prescription all ready to fill when we started trying to get pregnant with Beanie.
My dad was been on them for years and can't remember the last time he had a migraine. | | |
