| | Maybe Monday | | "I'm not athletic."
"I was always the last kid picked in gym class."
"No way I can do more than..."
"I haven't done that in years."
"Me? You've got to be kidding."
We all set limits for ourselves based on our preconceived notions of what we may or may not be capable of.
Yesterday, a couple of those notions were shattered when both Andrea and Amy(khar) walked more than 4 miles in one stretch. So much for "I can't do it."
While I'm not advocating going out and doing something stupid, I am putting in a vote for pushing yourself just a wee bit outside of the box you've tucked yourself into. Pick up the pace, add some distance, up the reps. Whatever you've been doing for yourself, do a little more today. Just to prove to yourself that you're better than you thought you were.
You can't progress if you don't try for the next level. You just need to be mindful of your real (not perceived) limitations and respect them.
Get out there and surprise yourself. It'll feel soooo good.

| | This is my reasoning on losing a pound this week. I have been having to do a lot of things that I haven't done in a long time.
For instance, the dryer broke on Thursday, so Friday I had to load up all our clothes and hit the coin-op laundry. Which entails lugging all the clothes up and down the driveway. Straight up and down driveway.
And I've been having to move loads of stuff to the storeroom that we simply do not have room for here.
Plus chasing after 3 dawgs and 2 cats.
I'm constantly worn out, but hoping that eventually I'll get my stamina back up.
We'll see.
But anyhow, that's how I lost a pound while stress eating.

| | Sara, sit down. Wouldn't want you to bump your head when you faint in shock.
Yup.
Have my pedometer on. And I should be able to upload all my stuff this afternoon. Haven't been setting any records or anything. Just slow and steady.
Now I just have to find the numerous pieces of scrap paper where I've been jotting down all my totals.

| | Back after a day away. I rested yesterday, so this morning, after returning home, I went for a run. I did a shorter route that usually takes me about 25 minutes. My goal was to make finish in less time, which I did: 23:4 minutes.

| Very true. Again, in a weird way, I’m happy that I gained that extra weight over the last year and a half or so. If I wasn’t scared out of my boots by it, I wouldn’t have reached to make any of the changes I’ve made over the last two months. (Also, if it weren’t for you guys )
It’s kind of like I’m a new and improved version of me now. How I ever got into the habit of eating cheesesteaks for lunch, I’ll never know, (Slip sliding away, I guess.) but that’s not the me I’ve been for the last 10 years.
Anyway, FINALLY, I’m sitting here with a Lean Cusine for lunch (that’s me! I recognize myself!) ,with a water (that’s the new me!), thinking about how on earth I’m going to get enough steps today (the new me again!). If I am capable of changing into someone who looks at the word “exercise” as something positive, anybody is. If I’m capable of thinking of water as beverage, anybody is.
Now, if I turn into someone who is actually physically fit? The world may end. J
It all starts with baby steps, and then you just kick it up a notch, yes?
Andrea

| | Count me in the overdid it mode today, But it wasn't my fault,
I work on the 14th floor. There was a fire on the 13th floor. 15 long sets of stairs later (1 != ground floor) I was finished evacuating. Oy my knees.
And the horrible thing is that it wasn't even that many steps!

| | Oh Janice, Janice, Janice! Going down is harder on your knees than going up, you poor thing. Oh well, it's not like you had a choice. I bet you'll be feeling it in your thighs tomorrow!

| | Janice, I hope you and everyone else is okay! That must have been scary!
I spent the day on moving - part two, day one. Tomorrow and Weds will be the nasty days, but I will get a lot of walking done just going up and down to the 4th floor.
I locked my keys in my car this a.m. so I took a 4000 step walk while I waited for Dan to come rescue me. It's so gorgeous today that I think I will need to take another quick one this evening as well.

| | Thankfully everyone is okay. It was a very small electrical fire apparently cause by a fan that fried, so very localized.

| | Again they canceled step class! This has been the worst workout month I have had in a while. |

| | | Normally I walk about an hour to an hour and a half. I do a circuit of a large block and one or two of a smaller block in the area at a reasonable pace.
Today, because it was cooler weather, I was out for two hours, did several circuits of a larger block, and did it at a faster pace than ordinary.
My goal is to be out for at least 30 minutes a day just to get the heart rate up. Anything after that initial 30 is serious aerobic burn time, right? |

The first 30 is for your heart. The rest is for your gut.
Nice going!

C'mon, get yourself a pedometer. You can still be cool with a pedometer. It's fun. We'll let you into the clubhouse and teach you the secret handshake and everything.
