| | Repetitive strain injuries | | Anyone know much about RSI?
I've been having some pain in my right hand. Brian is worried that it could be RSI from my crochet. It's not carpal tunnel. From what I saw, my pain isn't in the warning area - I get pain in the center of my palm just under my ring finger. It can be really sore, but it's not really restricting my movement or waking me at night.
I don't know if this is something that I should be concerned about. I don't think it is, but if its the start of something, I want to fix it - I have too much yarn to take a crochet break!! |

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | The only way to fix it is to take a break.
Yes, I have tendonitis in both wrists. It was a LOT worse when I was programming and doing cross-stitch all the time. I gave up the cross-stitch and alternate my mouse hand (I was exclusively a left-handed mouse user).
When the pain gets bad, I use the carpal tunnel braces for my wrists to help position them better, and make sure to sleep in them because I have a tendency to also get my wrists in some funky positions when sleeping. |

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | I wasn't too worried because I don't have any pain in my wrist - just on the outer side of my hand - under the ring/pinky fingers. |

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | Sorry Wormie, that's actually a sign of early carpal. You need to probably give yourself a rest, take some ibiprofin and buy the wrist thingees.
When I was diagnosed with early carpal, one of the things I noted was a sharp pain in my pinky and ring finger, especially when gripping the steering wheel. Doc immediately said "uh-oh", put me on preventative measures and it's been better since. Every once in a while I have a slight flare up, and then I put on my wrist brace for a day or two, take the drugs and it's better.

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | That wasn't what I wanted to hear. I thought Brian was just worrying about me for nothing.
The pain I have is not where I've read to expect pain, but its real, so I guess its worth some ibuprofin and a mention to the doctor.
The wrist brace will help the pain in the hand? I was really thinking that I'm just overworking my crochet muscle. |

Yep, the wrist thingee helps pain in my wrist and in my hand. And if it's really bothering you that much, you should have it looked at. Like I said, I mentioned it to my doc when I had tingling and numbness in my hands when driving, he said that was very typical.
Since it was caused by work, I got a new keyboard and an adjustable keyboard/mouse tray that goes with me no matter where I move, too.

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | Oy. Yep - I think I have the start of a problem. I am not happy! I think the positioning of my computer on my desk is bad. My desk is too high and I have to work at an angle. I just ordered a wrist pad and new mouse pad, but this is a bad desk and bad desk position. Bah. and I don't want to cut back on my crocheting. Bah. I'm going to buy the wrist guard thing too. I can't ignore it anymore - it hurts and I need to do something before it gets serious. |

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | Can you sit on a cushion or something to raise your body? Or raise your chair?

| | Re petitive strain injuries | | not without smashing my knees. I pulled my keyboard over in front of me so I can sit straight and have the keyboard close to me, but now I have no desk room for my papers and samples. |
