Walkin' in the rain

Remember how I said I don't mind walking in the rain? Well, it still stands...mostly

Today we are under a flash flood warning. I managed to get lots of steps in but around 1pm, the sky opened up and there went my afternoon walk back and forth to school. I actually had to change clothes after driving to pick the kids up. Anything that wasn't tucked into my rain slicker was dripping wet. (I didn't bother to use an umbrella. Sue me.)

Knowing that it was going to rain, I tried to get extra steps in this morning. I actually thought I did (Tap. Tap. Is this thing on?) because I took extra steps in my noon walk. To the store. For cigarettes.

That should have taken care of at least half my afternoon walk home from school. (I repeat: Is this thing on?)

Barely a blip.

So between dinner and cleaning up and running up and downstairs to get some laundry done, (I can't believe I am admitting this) I have been walking around and around the circle where I live, which is .3 mi. according to the odometer. I have done this a couple of times--in a steady (not torrential) downpour. I am now soaked but need to go out again for another 3 turns around the neighborhood to at least match yesterday's steps.

Why is this so hard? It was so effortless yesterday. I clocked mega steps in without hardly a thought! And with crummy shoes to boot. .

So could anyone offer me some suggestions? (Other than to quit whining and go out and walk? )

I refuse to march around the kitchen (Amy)--somehow walking in circles on pavement seems more dignified. I will under no circumstances do "power laundry"(Andrea)--I hate laundry enough as it is. Prolonging the agony seems cruel and unusual.

Well, I know what I need to do. You don't need to tell me. I need to go out and do my walk. It's the only thing that works for me.

What have you people done to me? Ugh!

Cyndi

Going out to walk so she can check back in another half hour to discover a lot of smartypants replies from a bunch of "Tweakers".

PS--See Bridgette? You aren't the only one who knows how to whine!

I think you are just scared to get those pretty shoes wet. And I don't blame you!

You could always rent/buy exercise videos and be an Andrea-clone. Me, I'm pushing my own envelope just by jogging...I really really really hate exercise videos, take me out and slap me upside the head if I ever start doing them this winter.

Perhaps your pedometer is on a strike to protest your purchase of cigarettes :P

Hey, it is about 20 steps around my kitchen island, so after about 5 or 6 laps I'm a little dizzy and I jog up to the front door and back or up the stairs, then come back and go the other way. I can't get a lot of steps that way, but it is good for 500 or so.

I've been getting up early for the last couple of weeks to walk. This morning, I found that I'm a fair-weather walker. Woke up to the sound of rain on the roof and instead of walking anyway or doing an exercise video, I rolled over and went back to sleep.

I never quite made up for it - I've been getting most of my steps in the morning, but it did feel good to sleep in. And taking a warm shower after you've been slogging through puddles feels wonderful, especially if you tumble your clothes on high heat while you're in the shower.

If you're looking for support, I'm the wrong person. I'll help you whine though.

Deb

Really Deb...that's all I'm looking for.

And Amy you are probably right. How I can be doing all these good things for myself and still be buying cigarettes is beyong me!

Cyndi

Over her snit and wondering how she is going to keep motivated after the month of September ends.
