Re Poison Oak sucks

After looking at the pictures on the site linked to from here, I realized that I sat with my bare feet in poison ivy for about 20 minutes while reading on Sunday. Thankfully, it hasn't bothered me yet.

Re Poison Oak sucks

from what I've heard, some people aren't allergic to poison Ivy. most are, some aren't.

I remember when i was a kid, I was sent to a summer camp I did NOT want to go to, so I found some poison Ivy and rubbed it all over my arms and legs....

nothing happened, so either I mis-identified the plant or I'm not allergic-either way I was ticked

Re Poison Oak sucks

Careful -- many people are not allergic to poison ivy the first time or the first few times. People who aren't allergic can reach a level of exposure where their bodies say "OK - that's enough, we're under attack!" and then you'll have a nasty reaction.

So, just stay away from the stuff.

Re Poison Oak sucks

I've never reacted to poison ivy, but that doesn't mean I'm careless around the stuff. I've seen what it can do and I figure it's only a matter of time if I don't take precautions.

OTOH, I did wade through fields of the stuff at summer camp once before realizing where I was. Poor kid who walked through it with me.

Nick isn't bothered by it at all, and can pull the stuff out with his bare hands without trouble. He does it all the time out at the farm where nobody else can touch it.
