| | Okay, this is my first post here and I have only been lurking a little bit so forgive me if this has already been discussed.
Two days ago I rejoined Weight Watchers. I was a lifetime member back when it was easy, I was not married, no children and only had 10 pounds to lose! So back at it again one marriage and three children later.
But I wanted to share this really great find....
Baskin-Robbins candy. I buy it at Walmart and it curbs my sweet tooth like nothing else. About 20 pieces come in a bag. Flavors like Mint Chocolate Chip, Tanganilla, Praline (I think). I really enjoy a good dessert and good candy. But not plain hard candy, I like candy with substance (fat)! One of these will take care of that craving for me. Here is the nutritional break down and I think it is very reasonable for all dieters, okay, maybe not low-carb.
3 pieces are a serving
60 calories
1 gram of fat
no fiber.
I can eat one of these DELICIOUS candies and be satisfied. The flavor is so rich and satisfying and I don't feel guilty!
Just had to share something that really helps me make it through the tough times.

| | Uh oh, candy is my weakness! I don't need sugary drinks or ice cream, but I do enjoy candy. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks!

| | Oh wow!! Ice cream is really my downfall. I can resist almost anything but a sale on Ben & Jerry's. And, my walking route takes me perilously close to a Baskin-Robbins. I'm going to Walmart tomorrow. I can't wait to try this!
Deb
hoping Margo will stick around and join the group of loosahs!

| | OK, well not to sound like a liar, I will admit I have a fondness for ice cream from the ice cream shops like Baskin-Robbins or Marble Slab Creamery, or Golden Spoons and so on. When I buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's, I have some and put it back in the freezer, forget about it and then it gets freezer burned and I throw it out. So I rarely even buy ice cream from the store.

No candy. No chocolates. Not even a walk to the corner store for them. Very bad.
Okay, well, maybe Sweettarts. |

| Add a little garlic salt and you've got nirvana in a bowl, baby.
I'm not really a candy person...although I do give in to the occasional chocolate craving (and then there were those peanut butter chocolate malted milk balls...I actually dedicated a stupid essay on ep about them!)...I haven't dared to even walk in that aisle at the grocery store again.
Margo, congrats on joining WW again...if you haven't been a member for a while, I think you'll like the points system. I joined in May and have lost 24.6 lbs (damn, I want that other .4 lb!!!!!) between cutting down on food, eating/preparing better, and MOVING (that's where this group has helped me immensely! )
Best to you...we've got a great support system going here!!!!

| | Hey Margo!
Glad to see another Loosah in here. Post away on this stuff. I love to hear about what others think about products--saves me a bundle of cash on bogus stuff.
Mmmmmm...candy. I have a sudden need to go to Wal-Mart

| | Well, gosh, if it comes to actual addictive, I can't control myself foods, the salty snacks always win out. Chips and salsa, Pringles, Veggie Booty, dry roasted peanuts. Oh, and those taro chips which I like even better than potato chips. Add a flavorful dip and I am gone! I don't get cravings for potato chips, and I rarely buy them, but when they are around I will eat them!

| | I discovered something last night. I bought some of those Go-Gurt things (the yogurt in a tube) and put them in the freezer. When I ate one, it was almost like having ice cream. One tube is 70 calories, 15 from fat. That's much better than a bowl of ice cream!

They aren't cheap, but they taste delicious....satisfy a little sugar craving and give you your calcium.
I swear by them.

| | I go for the salty things more too, but I think it's also the crunch and the act of holding something. I steer myself more toward pretzels and popcorn, and I have animal crackers at the office which most of the time work (proving it isn't strictly the salt) but I do have my share of potato chips.
I am not a big chocolate person. I was allergic to milk for about 7 years growing up (an actual allergy not uncommon in girls; most grow out of it when they hit puberty). I never entirely grew out of it - I can still get sick if I have too much cheese or a really rich chocolate cake or a very chocolaty ice cream. I can't tolerate chocolate milk at all. So I grew up without chocolate and I can get by without chocolate although I will have some if it's around.
I do have candy cravings at times, for the really sugary stuff. Things like smarties or starburst or skittles or other similar candy. I discovered long ago that I can keep unopened candy in my house for months without touching it but once I opened it it was gone. So I've started buying bags of mini-wrapped portions like halloween candy, or steering myself to buying an individual bag or bar when needed. I must admit that I've had to use some of it lately. But instead of having a huge bag of swedish fish, I had a single portion of starburst, instead of a huge bag of skittles I had two halloween mini-portions (less than an individual bag at the checkout aisle).
Maybe a similar thing would work with you chocoholics?

| | Candy is my achilles heel. I like it (a lot), and once I start, I can't stop. Halloween is a very difficult time of year for me. | | |
