| | I signed up for a personal trainer. I signed a contract. And I paid him. I'm committed to 30 sessions. 3 times a week. This is the end of life the way I've known it. Long workouts that will cut into my crochet time. And he wants me to totally change my diet - no milk, and no :shudder: chocolate.
What have I done, and why didn't you all stop me?
The torture begins on Thursday. |

He said no milk because of the steroids and antibiotics that they give the cows and that ends up in the milk. He said I should drink soy milk. |

Sorry... this is why I have a problem with some trainers... they tend to get some odd food ideas. |

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | The calcium thing isn't really an issue, as there are so many ways to get calcium in your diet. I hardly ever have milk- occasionally yogurt and small amounts of cheese, but not often. I drink enriched soy milk, eat lots of dark leafy greens, and also take a calc. citrate supplement. With my doctor's blessing.
Delia, you are so cool! I would love a trainer. I am seriously thinking instead of buying a big $$$ piece of workout equipment, so we can all use it. But it isn't as cute as a personal trainer.) |

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | No milk? Hmm.
No chocolate? Hmm.
So how many calories do you get to eat? How many grams of protien? Carbs? Fat?
No chocolate? Hmm.
This should be really interesting, eh?

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | But she can't have milk, Cindy. So she can't have cheese or yogurt, unless it's soy. At least, that's how I am taking it. :s |

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | Margaret, take my word for it. Despite the propaganda from the Dairy Council, humans can have a good life without cows milk.
Give it some time, Delia. You may find you feel so much better without milk, once you get over the withdrawal symptoms. And enriched soy milk is a good source of calcium and protein. There are so many delicious, healthy foods that don't contain milk! (So, just ignore my supper: cream of tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich. At least I used low fat cheese. I am such a cheese addict.) And Twin Labs makes a fine calcium citrate capsule with magnesium, very easy to digest.

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | Delia, congrats on committing to this training program. You'll do GREAT! Try to focus on the things that are important to you in the beginning. If you want to address the dietary issues now, great. If you want to put them off until later in the program, fine. Work everything in gradually. The quickest way to get discouraged with any program is to try to do everything and make tons of changes all at once. Have fun!

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | Thanks, Vince!
You people don't get it. Not drinking milk is not biggie. I'm lactose intollerant anyway. Switching to soy is no biggie. And he's not saying no dairy. I told him that the hardest thing for me to give up will be ice cream but that I always have the diet low-fat stuff. He said fine - he has TCBY.
Maybe you didn't hear me - no chocolate!!!!
I told him that changing my diet will be harder than the exercise. I need to work on portion control, but I did WW and I can get back into healthy habits. I just refuse to totally deprive myself of the joy of food. I enjoy eating and I like goodies. I do need to make smarter decisions and smaller portions, but I'm not going to give up all goodies.
The water think will be important.

| | Re Ugh! What Have I done!!! | | If you decide to buy a protien powder under no circumstances get a soy one. Well, you can if you like the taste of sh!t. They are incredibly nasty. Whey powders are best made with milk (soy would be okay) but are passable made with water.
So how many calories? That is what I'm curious about. You should be able to allocate some calories for your chocolate. When those cals are used up you're done. See portion control works for chocolate, too.
And it isn't about the chocolate, it is about the calories.
