| | Well, It's here.
That day you said, "Y'know, starting tomorrow I am going to XXXXXXXXXX.
Making resolutions to make positive changes to our lives is so easy when we know we can say, "I'll start later" or "Tuesday" or "when I XXXXXX".
The disappointment comes into play when "tomorrow" comes and we find another reason to put off making those changes yet another day.
Well, tomorrow is here gang.
What small step are you going to take to make your life better--today?
And if you've taken that step recently, you probably know how good it feels to finally make up your mind and do something for yourself.
Success is contagious--and so is the support of others.
So share. |

| | I actually made an appointment for a physical exam.
I hate going to the doctor's office. I live with the philosophy that they are paid to find things wrong and I can do the same thing on my own for free. I am one of those who would rather live in ignorant bliss.
Besides, I spent the better part of 2 years at the Obstetrician's office. One kid was born and I immediately got pregnant with the other. I looked at that period as "banked" visits against the future.
Probably a bad plan.
So off I go to the doctors in November. Whoo Hoo! Cholesterol, blood sugar, chem, CBC, 'Crit, Mammogram, the works.
No "a la carte" for this gal.
The good news will be that I will be physically a lot healthier than if I had planned this same visit a year ago.
The bad news of course is that I still am smoking--although I have made a conscious effort to cut back a bit.
One thing at a time.

| | Sara - Yea! Have fun at the Y tonight!
Cyndi - Ugh, I hate going to doctors, but I'm glad you're getting everything done in one fell swoop--it's less painful that way.
My knees feel much better today; I think running yesterday helped them adjust after all that walking we did in New York.
Today, I'm off to lift weights after class. But before class I have to meet the Army student liaison who happens to have his office on the exact opposite of campus of the lot I'm permitted to park in. I have to walk all the way there, then back for my class at 11:15. And, since he can only meet me between 10:50 and 11:15, I'll be walking quite speedily so I won't be late (though the instructor always is so why I bother...)
Anyway, I'm actually looking forward to the trek. I love the crisp fall weather when I'm walking.

| | I am going to try out some of the Palm exercise tracking software. I keep meaning to do it and I keep not doing it.
I tried some maybe 18months ago when I started my last attempt to go to a gym and I was less than impressed. But I'm sure there's new stuff now.

| | No problem.
Nothing worse than working out while attached to a CD player with dead batteries.

| | I went to my orientation at the Y. I guess you can say I'm now orientated.
Boy has technology changed since I was last in a gym 18 years ago.
Anywho, I learned all the Cybex equipment and the computer that stores all my data. Pretty neat stuff. I'm glad I don't have to remember all the settings etc. on my own. Tomorrow I'll go back and try the machines out for real. (Stock tip for everyone: invest in Ben Gay. I'm sure I'll be buying a lot of it.)
Did my half hour on the treadmill which was uneventful if you don't count the time I tried to take my hands off the rail and spaced out. I caught myself before I did anything totally embarrassing.
I did notice something interesting though. I seem to get a lot more steps in on the treadmill than I do outdoors. I must have a shorter stride on the machine. I can't say how much of a difference it is because I didn't think to check where I was stepwise before getting on. But I managed to accumulate more than I expected between the time I arrive at the gym and the time I left. Tomorrow I'll have to remember to check a before and after for a true reading on the treadmill.

| | | As soon as I wrote that, I got a call rom a friend inviting me to the opening playoff game at Enron Field.
Trunk's now more of a mess, but I didn't have any beer, hotdogs, peanuts, or junk food while watching. Just a hugeassed diet Coke that cost a bazillion bucks.
As for the trunk... I'LL DO IT TOMORROW!

I think you're right about stride length being different because I always seem to get less than an equivalent time not on the treadmill even though I know I'm walking faster and more continuously. I can't really judge distance because my distances in the real world are either in steps or blocks which are both pretty useless in this case.
Anyway, fewer steps doesn't really bother me because I definitely get a much harder workout. For one thing, I don't hold on any more and I move my arms now when I walk (this is a new development). I sweat a lot more on the treadmill so I must be working myself more.
