| | 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | Per my need and Cindy's request I am welcoming back the daily food log! I need to start getting serious with healthy food choices (notice I didn't use the D word) and I know that there is a great support group here.
I went to the gym this morning. Did crunches, stretches and 90 minutes of cardio.
Had a small granolla/yogurt bar for breakfast (don't have the box but will guess 3 pts)
For lunch Brian made veggie quesidilla - wheat tortilla, lots of fresh veggies, some cheese and a dollup of lf sour cream - I'll guestimate 10 points.
Water to drink. |

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | I like the Self magazine food logger (tracks calories and fat/protein/carbs much better than I ever could), so I'll be logging there and reporting here if I'm within limits.
Walked the mile today with Hubby, but it was more of a stop/start/shop/stroll because there's a street fair going on this weekend.

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | MJ - if you do get a pedometer, you'll be suprised how much walking you can do in just active fun - street fairs, art shows, grocery shopping - it adds up a lot more than sitting at the computer |

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | Yeah, it's moving, but it's not really MOVING, not like the fast clip I walk the mile if it's just me, no Hubby, no street fair. I do the I'm-In-Manhattan walk when I'm by myself and that gets the blood pumping!

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | I think that real "let's get stinky sweaty sore muscle exercise" is important, but I really think that just an active life style even without the "pump" is really beneficial. Taking a stroll through the neighborhood isn't going to burn off my hips, but its more than I burn watching tv. |

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | Wormie's right you burn most of your calories through ADL's (activities of daily living).
I log here: FitDay.com - Diet and Fitness journal for mtomm
I'm trying very hard to break the 150 weight barrier this next few weeks. I'm so close but my body is really resisting.
Gym today was combing two workouts into one. I concentrated on the compounds and cut out the isolation work. Haven't done any HIIT this week because my hip flexors were hurting for some reason. Did manage plenty of steady state cardio though.

Wormie's right you burn most of your calories through ADL's (activities of daily living). | Of course. But when one wants to burn more calories, one has to increase ADL and/or add some time-effective hard-burning stuff. I'd rather power-walk the mile and get back to my regularly scheduled ADL's than take a leisurely stroll.

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | LOL - back when I could jog, I didn't really love it, but I saw results. I did 2-5 miles a day and I used to push myself to go faster so I could get home and be sedentary sooner. |

Losing weight is 90% diet anyway.

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | Wow, that's somewhat contrary to what I've been reading and what you've been espousing about exercise, especially weight training. I've been reading on the weight one gains as one gets *ahem* older, and it says part of the problem is those getting-older-type people (the poor things) lose muscle mass, which results in them burning few calories through sheer metabolism and ADL. I'd have expeceted you to state losing weight is more like 60% diet, 40% exercise (says MJ pulling numbers out of a hat).

| | Re 6-2 - That looks good on you! | | Nope. Diet first. But diet is also key to making and keep gains while weight training AND maintaining your muscle mass as you age.
Having muscle is so important. But your body has to have EXTRA calories to make muscle. It is very difficult to diet and gain muscle (unless you are new to weight training and have significant extra weight.)
So aging people should weight train to MAINTAIN the muscle they have and if they want to add extra muscle they need to eat higher than maintenance.
You cannot exercise away a poor diet. The calories just add up way too quickly.
