| | Knowing how many calories you are eating is key.
Find a way of tracking the number of calories you are eating each day. Don't worry about cutting back until you have a good idea of what you are eating right now. Take a week and track. It should be very interesting.
I use Fitday.com
Other suggestions? Isn't there Calorie King? Or Calorie Count?
What is it that JP was using?

| | I'm using Fitday now too, thank you!
Went to the gym this morning and had a horrible experience. I dumped the trainer and am ready to dump the gym after my membership runs out.
Did 10 minutes of crunches
35 minutes on the eliptical
1 hour of yoga - but it was hard for me to do a lot of it.
Had 2/3s a jamba juice and a half ounce of dark yummy chocolate. |

| | Ouch, sorry about the bad experience and trainer-dumping.
I use selfdietclub.com - it's like ediets, free with a subscription to Self magazine (which is pretty informative and helpful, IMO, and goes beyond dieting/exercise/health coverage). Tell the website what you ate, how much, and when, and it spits out nutrition and calorie totals for the day. Nice pie charts too, and some compare-days bar graphs.

| | I thought you tried the Self one a while ago - isn't that why you got the subscription in the first place?

| | Oops! I was out all day and when I got home, I forgot to log.
breakfast - a banana, 1 fat-free yogurt, green tea
lunch - out, so 1/2 burger and a salad with nothing on it. I was half good, though - I asked for a to-go box before I started eating, and placed half the burger and all of the fries in so I wouldn't even be tempted.
supper - half a small chicken breast, a spoonful of potato salad and a plate of raw veggies.
The last time I lost so much weight, I used Dr. Ornish. I didn't count calories, only grams of fat, and I felt great! I also lowered the calories just because it takes a lot longer to add up calories if you aren't eating high fat foods. I'm aiming for that again, but it means cooking several things at a time for supper. Still, it will be workth it.
Oh- and walked 1/2 mile, and then was out all day walking from store to store getting things for #1 before he leaves. Pant pant - I am so worn out that I can't fall asleep. |

| | And you know what else? Logging really makes me think. When I lost weight before, I logged everything. I didn't show it to anyone after the first two weeks- my doctor wanted to look at it for two weeks - but just seeing it written down made me try harder to eat only healthy things. |

| | I think that should work just fine, Cindy. Only if you reach a point where you plateau you might have to change your strategy. Certainly everyone should start with what is easiest and gives results.
