| | That's what I'm doing, Amy, gradually increasing the amount of fat I'm eating. Tonite was a litmus test - and it's passed so far (no, not THAT kind of passing... )
Meals today:
Protein Naked Juice for breakfast
Dried fruit for snack
Ham sandwich on whole grain for lunch
Spaghetti (whole wheat pasta), with marinara sauce, loaded with mushrooms, onions and garlic; meatballs made with 1 lb turkey to 1/3 lb Italian sausage; broccolli steamed. I cooked the 'shrooms and onions in about a T of olive oil before adding to the sauce.
I'm not hungry, and I'm not having any treatment effects. So far, so good.

| | Wanted to journal yesterday.
Breakfast: Kashi CinnaRaisin Crunch with skim milk
Lunch: 1 serving Naked Juice Protein Smoothie. Those "cartons" from Sams' are huge and have four servings in each one! And I still have another full one at home!
Snack: Pop-Secret Lite Popcorn, about 3/4 of a bag (more about this in a second)
Dinner: Egg sandwich on whole wheat bread - 1 egg (4.5g fat), 2 slices bread (2g fat), 1T bacon crumbles (1.5g fat) so it's still under.
Skip this next part if you don't want to hear about treatment effects.
I did experience some side effects on Wednesday. I'm blaming it on the popcorn, because it wa the one thing I ate yesterday that had fat that I hadn't eaten before (although at 2g per serving, and I ate about 1.5 servings, it shouldn't have made a difference.) The side effects were not terrible - some spots of what looks like that nasty orange-yellow popcorn oil in the water when I went to the bathroom. Nothing that couldn't be controlled, and it didn't last long. But the popcorn is out for a while.
And (dare I post early) I am seeing the numbers go down on the scale...I'll report the weekly total on Saturday, but I like seeing improvement.

| | I'm not having any bad side effects. No significant weight loss yet, but it's the first week and my weight fluctuates throughout the month. Bob is already tiring of the whole diet idea.

| | Yesterday food:
Breakfast: Kashi cereal w/skim milk and a couple of dried strawberries thrown in because I couldn't find the raisins (they'd all sifted to the bottom of the box )
Lunch: Subway ham & turkey on whole wheat - all the veggies sans olives, no oil/vinegar, no mayo, no cheese. Website states that it's 5.0g fat.
Dinner: about 1c whole wheat pasta w/marinara sauce, 1T parm cheese, 2 turkey meatballs. 2T blueberry jam (not on the pasta, I just needed something sweet and Jeremy had eaten all the fresh blueberries )
No side effects. So I guess it probably was the popcorn on Weds.

No, not yet.
I'm on other unrelated meds that have similar (though controllable) "treatment" effects. I'm afraid to tip the control balance.

| | HI All,
Does anyone know the effectiveness of using Alli if you are already on a low fat/low carb diet/low calorie diet?
I have lost 6 lbs over a course of 3 weeks by following a diet and exercising . But I was hoping Alli could help speed up the process.
Alli suggests that you keep each meal to 15G of fat. My current diet plan is 5 small 'meals' per day (by eating every 3 hrs). Each meal max is about 5g of fat, but usually even less. Do you think Alli will do anything?
I'm at 145 now and really hoping to lose another 15 lbs over the next 4-5 weeks?
Any thoughts? Thanks! |

| | Hi Jweng and welcome to the board!
I think the product is so new that it's going to take some time to understand how it will affect those on a low-fat diet already. In the literature, it refers to WW and Pritkin as two low-med fat diets that would complement the Alli plan and medication. If you are already eating that low-fat of a diet and haven't hit a plateau, I'd recommend you stick with what you are doing instead of "speeding up" the process by using Alli (it's not cheap!) One to two pounds a week is generally considered safe and healthy weight loss, so I think you are on the right track.
Well, I think I am going to take a self-imposed hiatus from the product for a couple of days. We just got a call that will necessitate a long twip, and while my side have been minimal, I don't want to take any chances.
I'll post my one week weigh in tomorrow, and will start back up again next week.

| | Okay, so week one, I lost 3.5 pounds. That's good, but it's no more than I did the first week of WW when I did it before. I am definitely pleased to be back on track if nothing else.
I stopped taking Alli yesterday when I found out we'll be in the car for extended periods of time this weekend, but I will start back up again on Tuesday.

| | That's GREAT Lynn!
Congrats.
I really need to get back on WW.
I don't want to take pills, and I have no desire to take Alli, but I was losing on WW and need to try again.
I'm just in a bad slump. |

| | Okay, so back home and back on the capsules again. I was really, really careful this weekend, and didn't gain back anything. Some low fat choices that you can go for that will not put you over:
McDonalds (my least favorite fast food restaurant, I only will go there if there's no other choice or I'm dragged in kicking and screaming by the boys): regular hamburger and fruit/yogurt parfait. 13g fat
Burger King plain Whopper Jr., no cheese, no mayo. I'm not sure of the fat content, but on WW it's only about 9 points, and has the veggies on the sandwich.
We also ate traditional Lutheran funeral food which consists of one thin slice of ham on a white dinner roll, various salads that contain small rings of pasta, peas, ham, cheese chunks and mayo, and of course, jello. I was realy careful to only take about a 1/4c of anything and try to control through portion sizes.
Today, back on the Alli, having ww toast and blueberry jam for breakfast.

| | Hi All,
I am new to this board and first want to congratulate those who seem to be getting success from Alli .
I started Alli 3 days ago and have had some very unpleasant side effects even while eating a low fat diet. I was ready to give up and decided this morning to keep going to see what happens. I have lost 2 pounds since starting and today I haven't experienced the effects that I have the past couple of day (perhaps my body just need to adjust?)
I've been reading on this board and others that people seem to have lost between 2 and 5 pounds even on the first week. I thought you were only suppose to lose 1-2 pounds per month?????
Look forward to chatting with you all! |

| | No, healthy weight loss is 1 - 2 pounds per week.
Welcome!

| | Welcome Twinsarebest! Glad to have you here!
I'm posting my journal of food so that I can keep tabs on myself (accountability) as well as help anyone who might be thinking about Alli make that decision. You're welcome to post your food journal and findings as well if you'd like!
I'm finding that it helps me remember that I don't want to eat popcorn while I'm on the program...once I get to where I want to be and can stop the capsules, I can indulge a LITTLE, but right now it's the only thing I've found that has caused any ill effects.
As Melanie said, healthy weight loss is considered 1-2 pounds a week...many times when someone starts out a program, they lose more the first week or two. I lost 3 1/2 lbs the first week on the Alli.
Glad to have you here, hope you join in on this and other discussions!

| | Wormie, you are an inspiration to us all.
Okay today.
Breakfast - ww toast with blueberry jam
Lunch - really yummy salad with some lean ham, crumbled cheese, tomatoes, onions, bacon bits and LF italian dressing that was just delicious. I am not kidding on that, and I hate most LF dressings. Going to make myself another one for lunch tomorrow.
Snack - dried fruit
Dinner - really yummy Sweet Onion Chicken sandwich from Subway...another new favorite that I've never tried before. I told Jeremy I could eat that sandwich sans chicken (just the veggies and FF dressing!) and it would be delicious.
My stomach is a bit upset today, but I honestly believe it's just the tail end of a stomach bug I had over the weekend that is going around. No "treatment effects" today.

| | Okay... here's a question I think might be a biggie... of those of you on it, how many have your gall bladders?
I know that if I have a high-fat meal, that's ALREADY a side effect. I'm wondering if adding this to it would render most fat undigestible. |

| | Pippa - I'm not taking it, but if you don't have a gall-bladder I would be very weary of it.
I buy "Essential Enzymes" at the health food store, and when I remember to take them, I find they work. You may want to try. |
