| | Missy, if it's a choice between a generic and the SAME medication as a brand name, I'll take the generic every time. But when they are pushing a generic OLD med over a newer, more effective medicine that has no generic equivalent? It sucks. |

| | My sister has taken to blaming everything in the world on gluten intolerance, but there is a link between gluten intolerance (celiac disease) and skin problems like psoriasis. It's also seriously underdiagnosed.
Probably not what's going on here, but something to consider.

| | Thankfully, DH hasn't got this *in* his eyes, just on the eyelid skin. Also, for a while the skin all the way around his eyes was red and puffy, and irritated, but the flakiness is only on the actual eyelids themselves.
If there's a link between gluten and psoriasis, maybe the current carb-cutting that DH is doing will also help! His BP is also up some, as well as his lipids and cholesterol being a smidge too high - the doc told him to lose 10-15 pounds and cut down on carbs. I know there's gluten in lots of things, but obviously cutting back on breads and pastas will reduce consumption.

| | Okay, this is all coming back to me now. I had some of the same of what you're describing under and around my eyes - we attributed most of it to allergies, but the doc gave me (eledril???? Pippa or JP should know this one...it was taken off the market because it was potentially harmful to kids, but worked like magic) topical. I still have some small sample tubes of it around.
Anyone remember what that stuff was? Maybe you could ask for something in that family - I remember that it was expensive, but not ridiculous.

| | Dad's BP is also creeping up... the only way he monitors it is his monthly platelet donation. Mom's trying to get him to see the doc for the first time in quite a few years.
And yes Pippa, I'm right there with you. I've spent 80 bucks on 4 topicals for skin issues in the last 2 months because there are no generic products that are equivalent. Once a new drug comes off patent it's fair game to be "generic-cized"... however, the research, development, and manufacturing resources in a generic drug company are severely limited compared to those of a brand company... ergo making it very difficult to make a good generic equivalent to a lot of the innovative things out on the market now.

| | Lynn, Elidel. And my GOD that stuff was the bomb, wasn't it??? I'm still not sorry that I used it on the boys and I'm wondering how much of the "causes skin cancer in children" was due to overuse of the product and underuse of sun safety. | | | |
