| | Poor DH has psoriasis, mostly on his hands. It has recently started trying to come up on his EYES and he finally made it in to see a dermatologist up here. The doc wrote him a script for one of the more common topical steriods, which he's used before, and then for something called "Soriatane", which is a Vitamin A derivative. Like Retin-A, Retinol, that sort of stuff. It's supposed to be taken internally to try and clear things up from the inside out.
Went to the pharmacy yesterday. The topical's pretty inexpensive, no big deal. But just a minute after taking the scrip for the Vit. A stuff, the pharmacist motioned me over and asked if they'd told us how much the stuff costs.
Anyone want to take a guess?

Dan had a script for a topical skin cream and they did the same thing. I think it was around $275 - and that was WITH insurance paying their share.

| | Wow, I can't find a price online, but I googled and read about it.
That's some pretty powerful stuff. And comes with some pretty hefty warnings.

| | LOLOL, Amy!
$624.00
Our new insurance has a $200 deductible per person ($600/family) before they start paying on drugs. DH has had several other things filled in the last two weeks, but I'm not sure how close he is to the deductible. The pharmacist said it was $750 without insurance, but he wasn't sure if the $624 would be our price all the time, or if it included still meeting some of that $200 deductible. Even if it included finishing up the last of the deductible, I know we couldn't possibly have much left. It would still be around $600.
Yep, DH is going to call in today and see if they have any other ideas. That's ridiculous. And no warning whatsoever - didn't even ask if we could afford something expensive!

| | Same thing when Dan got the script for his stuff. Doc didn't say anything about it being really expensive, they should know this.
How long would he have to take it?

| | Not sure. I guess 'til it cleared up? If I'm reading it right, that was for a one month supply.
And the doc was gracious enough to write it with 11 refills, wasn't that nice?

| | I got a bit of a shocker this week, going for my regular script at my regular pharmacy. Without insurance, a 90 day supply is $18.00. With insurance, the insurance company would only allow a monthly fill, and the copay on the montly fill up was $8.00.
In what way is it good that I was paying MORE for a script WITH insurance coverage than I'm paying WITHOUT it?

| | Some insurances will allow you to get 90 day supplies at a 60 day co-pay.
Obviously, Eris, yours isn't one of them. That bites.
