Psychology of food...

Do you think it's ok if I made my dinners my breakfasts and my breakfasts my dinners? I'm hungry in the morning. I'm starving during the day. I am not hungry at night...

I think I get hungry cause I plan on leaving the house. Which means I'll only have the food I bring with me to eat at work. Which means that by 10 am I will be starving (regardless of whether I've had snacks at work or not) and by 12:30 I'm feeling sorry for myself (at which point I eat my lunch) and 3 pm I can't wait to get home and eat dinner (even if I have an afternoon snack.)

As soon as I'm home I'm fine. I'm not hungry. A piece of toast or a piece of fruit will fill me.

I'm thinking either 1. my body is preparing for a whole day ahead of me, which explains why I'm more hungry early in the day, and at night, I don't need as much fuel to keep me going so I don't crave it, or 2. I have a terrible "hoarding for the winter" (or for the day ahead of me where I can't just reach into my kitchen and grab whatever it is I crave) instinct.

I think it's healthier for most people to eat more in the morning and less in the evening. I've found that I'm lots less starving in the morning if I eat fewer carbs and more protein then, though.

Re Psychology of food...

When you eat doesn't matter. You should eat so you are comfortable. I can't see the big deal in eating most of your food when you are hungry. In fact, it makes complete sense.

I've watched lots of people on other boards I frequent participate in what is called intermittent fasting. Basically it is eating all of your calories for the day at one meal and then going without food for the rest of the night/day until the one big meal comes around again. Contrary to what we've been told these folks have not gained weight but actually lost lots of fat and maintained their muscle mass. They've just found a different way to diet that works for them.

Timing of food doesn't matter to the body so much as it matters to your mind and I believe people should time their food for what makes them the most comfortable.

Re Psychology of food...

When you eat and what you eat isn't nearly as important as how much you obsess about what and when you eat, which isn't healthy. Besides, you got a treadmill, and exercise is much more important than dieting. Judging by your recent photo, you are a lovely woman, and you should find something else to focus on.

I agree with Leslie. Margaret, do what works for you, and stop worrying about it.
