Clap! Loving Weights!!!

I started this Body Pump class at the Y in the beginning of January. Due to illness, I missed a week, but other than that, I haven't missed a day! Twice a week, free weights to music.

I find that while you can watch the instructor and go along with her "rhythm", some of them (they rotate) don't have a very good sense of beat. So I face the mirror to make sure I have good form, and count 1,2,3,4 while I'm lifting.

This week, I'm adding weight (I'm still a total weinee, about 5 pounds on each end of the bar), and plan to add a bit more every 2 weeks.

I LOVE this class....after the first day, I could barely move, but I'm past that now. My only problem is almost passing out during squats (I think it's a dizzy thing that I will probably never get over) but the arm work is FABULOUS.

If I have time, I spend 5-10 minutes on the treadmill to warm up before class, and it does seem to help with being sore the next day. Plus, in addition to the two days of Body Pump class, I'm doing one day a week of strictly treadmill for 45 minutes or so...the iPod really helps keep me motivated there.

And I'm down 4 lbs from my first weigh in on the K-Mart challenge....go me!!!!

Sheesh, haven't I been preaching this for a while now? It is about time somebody started listening to my advice.

I've always liked working with weights, but it's doubly motivating to do it in a class to keep you going. And the music is good too for keeping you going.

Our class is about 50-50 men/women, which is interesting because I think it's initially thought of as a "girly" weight class. More guys have joined since we started.

Cool, Lynn! The Body Pump class wasn't my thing, but if they are doing Body Pump, see if they have Body Flow as well. THAT was my favorite... it's a mix of Pilates, Tai Chi & yoga, and while it sounds like nothing, it is amazing not only for strength, but also for flexibility. And I still get the shakes every time I hear Destiny's Child's Survivor because of the horrifying abs routine that went with that song in one of the programs.

Re Loving Weights!!!

I'm starting a Pilates/Yoga class in a few weeks & I can't wait. I started doing yoga a little bit about two years ago, but after my accident my shoulder couldn't handle it. I'm hoping it's strong enough by now that I'll be able to do everything, and hopefully it'll help strengthen it further.

Re Loving Weights!!!

I keep hearing good things about Pilates and Yoga both. A friend of mine with arthritis in her ankles, etc. has been going to Yoga for a year, and finds she is more flexible now. I admire her persistence.
