Avoiding Pink Eye...

Yesterday I told my boyfriend I thought he had pink eye. Today he went to the doctor and my diagnosis was confirmed. I got home too late last night to change my bedding so I decided to sleep on the couch, thus avoiding his germies.

I am washing my bedding now. The sheets and pillow cases can be washed but all the "dry clean only" stuff... do I have to dry clean them to protect myself, or can I just throw them in the dryer to have the germs cook off, like you do to the dust mites?

Yuck.

Also, Judy, or MNM, or anyone who might know -- what does it mean if you are getting a lot of infections? Is there a way to prevent them? They're all different infections, not recurrent infections, fwiw.

Re Avoiding Pink Eye...

Multiple, relatively minor, infections which respond to treatment may simply mean exposure to new germs. When my middle child was in his first year of pre-school, I thought I was going to DIE. I had strep throat 3 times, multiple ear and sinus infections. The little germ factories at the school just brought it all in. By the second year, I'd become absolutely obsessive about handwashing (and probably more resistant to the germs) and hardly got sick at all.

I recommend frequent handwashing - as in do NOT touch your face or anything you're going to put in your mouth without washing your hands. Antibacterial soap not recommended, just wash your hands often. It may be that simple.

Also, getting enough sleep helps. Taking a multivitamin may not help, but probably won't hurt - nothing fancy, just basics.
