This reminded me of a Marissa story--she was out with friends and they were talking about the hot weather, she said, and I quote..."My mother is really miserable when she is in heat."

MJ - the shot was supposed to work immediately - as are the pills.
This morning I woke with a new one on my right elbow, 4 on my right hip, my right ankle looks like something from the elephant man, and I have 4 on my left shoulder. They itch like a bitch, and I'm not very happy. I'll be back when my sense of humor returns.

Is it possible to be allergic to antihistamines?

YES. Benedryl, IIRC, has a dye in it that people are allergic to, for example.

I was just googling to see if I could be allergic to the antihistamines. It's unlikely. And I'm not on benedryl.
It seems that I have what they call "Chronic hives" and they are hard to treat but generally go away in 6 months (though they can last for years)

(The benedryl example was just an example. You can be allergic to other agents, like preservatives, in the antihistamines or even in the compound used to make the shot you had.)

Don't self-diagnose, call the dermo and ask for a follow-up appointment, tell her they're getting worse instead of better and let HER decide if you have chronic hives or not. If that's what it is, see what better ways there are to manage them in the interim.

I think er doctor too. Also, as I stated before, Brian has had them too which in my mind precludes it being just you being allergic. I think it has something to do with the flooding episode somehow. But, it's all up to you since you're the one putting up with them.

Until someone does a scraping, fungal infection hasn't been ruled out. I know the derm doesn't think it looks like fungus, but he doesn't know for sure. If it doesn't respond to his meds, maybe he will reconsider.

The fact that Brian also has it is really suspicious.

I have an appt to go back to him (the derm) in a few weeks. At that point, if they are still like this, I would hope he would do a scraping. Brian has them too, but his aren't nearly as bad. It's really really very odd. Mostly they are annoying. Occasionally they flair up to really really horrible itchy bad. This morning was quite bad. Not so bad now. I can't see going to the ER when I don't think they're really a health hazard. I asked the NP about it when she called with my bloodwork. She said wait until we move out of the house, and if they don't clear up then, demand a scraping. My next appt with the derm is the week after we move, so..... we'll see....

they seem to get worse when I sleep and are horrible when I wake up. I finally decided I must have bed bugs. Of course bed bugs are visible to the eye and we've checked the bedding and mattress several times.

So I googled and looked at lots of really repulsive photos online, and I don't have bedbugs. I don't have chiggers. I don't have scabies.

I have chronic friggen hives, and no sense of humor, and no relief in sight.

So, since the meds don't seem to work, would you all continue to take the antihistamines, or should I just try and white knuckle it. It all feels hopeless.

Brian had a new theory about mold or fungus from the lawnmower.

I think we just need to move.
I won't go to the ER unless I really swell up, and I'll try not to whine too much, but every now and then (like a few hours ago) it get really hard.

Right now it's not so bad.

I know this sounds horrible and painful, but have you tried swabbing them with isoprophil alcohol?

I'll try next time they flair up. I have some RX ointment that I use when it gets very bad.

I have vanilla rum. That's alcohol and I bet it would help, And it's quite delicious.

I used to get really bad mosquito bites that would drive me insane. I would dab them with alcohol, it is really cold, burns a bit, but it killed the itch. Sometimes it took a few dabs.

It always felt good.

Remember that benedryl spray? God that was wonderful. Anyone know if you can still get it in other countries? I have a bottle with just a little left, and it's way way way past expiration, but I'm not getting rid of that stuff for anything!
