Light show, part deux

So, I went to the eye doctor 'cause my husband made me after the light show I referred to in this thread.

I needed glasses anyway. I've always been near sighted, but don't wear glasses, and lately the close up vision has been going. Fair amount of eye strain from that. Side note: he told me that due to an astigmatism, I'm actually eligible for three different pairs of glasses, aren't I the special child, but that I don't have to fill or wear anything unless it matters to what I'm doing daily.

But on the light show - a couple of hours of flashy glow worms in my peripheral vision.

Doctors beget doctors.

He wants me to have a circulatory evaluation to rule out mini stroke. 99% chance, my age, it will come back negative, but, says he, shouldn't be played with. (Then cites a couple examples from over the years when he's referred people its saved lives.)

Oh bother. I does hates to go to the doctors! :p (world's worst patient am I)

Also, have already told the husband so the chance of putting it off are nil, don't worry about that, the man will drag me by the hair, everything I've put him thru the last few years.

p.s. I'm not really worried, but figured this tidbit of info heretofore unknown to me might be helpful to somebody else sometime

Re Light show, part deux

I just wrote next month's newsletter on headaches. I want to send it to you if I can remember when I'm at work, lol.

But basically, yeah, headaches are usually nothing. They rule out a LOT of other stuff in order to say with certainty that yes, it is just a headache. I had to go through all those tests when I was a kid. Ugh!!! No fun at any age!

Ok, you haven't mentioned headaches, but Dr Margaret, who is not a doctor, and doesn't even play one on tv, bets you have migraines, but thinks you should rule out everything else just in case, ya know

Re Light show, part deux

No headaches even!

[searches wood to knock]

I do take a ton of Motrin (okayed by teh doctors, prescription level) every day for my other shit, so a medium level headache wouldn't make it through the Barrier O Motrin.

His point in concern was age. He said if a 20 year old told him about the light show, he wouldn't think twice. If a 70 year old said it, he'd be very concerned. 47 put him at cautious.

I got lost on some of the stuff he was saying, thinking "Oh, shit, I have to see another doctor. Shit. Shit. Shit.", but he showed me vessels in my neck and explained how blockages *could* cause a light show (which has nothing to do with the eyes and everything to do with the back of the brain) and while less likely in a 47 year old was still possible.

:P I hate going to doctors.

Anyway, brain science is very interesting when it isn't you.

Re Light show, part deux

The thing that came to my mind when you mentioned the flashes in the first thread was retinal detachment. But the eye doctor would certainly have that covered.
