Maybe just a little something new

Right now, one in three Americans is overweight, but a new study says that all Americans will be overweight in 40 years. Billions of dollars are spent each year on diet foods. So what's going on?

At the end of this report there is a suggestion of a minimum amount of protein -- I've never heard that from the mainstream before.

Interesting. That's a low amount of protein, too, for many people. There is a formula to calculate how much you need daily, to maintain muscle mass, based on your weight, but I don't have it to hand. To increase muscle mass, as many of us want to do through exercise, you need more protein. According to the author of Body for Life, on reason weightloss/workout plans fail is too little protein for the body to use to build that healthy muscle to replace and burn fat.

Hmmm, the Dr. Ornish diet is low protein but contains enough to build muscle and lose weight. I am not sure that the Body For Life guy has it right in that respect.
