Clap! Walk the Walk Wednesday

You just knew this was coming today, didn't you?

Yesterday you talked the talk. Guess what? Today you walk the walk.

If you have not yet visited the Tuesday thread please do so now. We'll wait for you to return here when you're done.

Those of you who are whining about this being Whiner day don't panic. I'll start a separate thread in just a bit. Bear with me.

Now, down to business.

Yesterday you had a chance to fantasize about your fitness goals. Today you'll reflect on your perfect fitness scenario and see how you might be able to make at least a little piece of that a reality. It may take some creativity and/or flexibility (not just the physical kind). And it sure as heck will take some objectivity and commitment.

If you have trouble seeing how you can pull off some of the things you've been dreaming of, come back here and run it by everyone else. We'll be glad to help you see the forest and not just the trees.

Go on. Walk the Walk. Make it real.

Sara

Well . . . if I moved to Iowa, I could be Lynn's neighbor but I don't think it's going to motivate me to get out and walk until spring. We'd probably just end up at each other's kitchen tables, drinking tea and comparing cookie recipes. I need less of that, not more.

So . . . what I'd really like is that handsome personal trainer to oversee my fitness routine. That's pretty far-fetched too, but a girl can dream. I guess it's time to check into step aerobic classes at the Y. I was hoping to avoid it, but if I'm going to keep any kind of momentum going this winter, I can't think of an alternative. I wonder if they post pics of the instructors?

Deb

Deb, what are you doing up this early???

OK, how can I make my dreams a reality?

First, I can avoid trips to the grocery store like I had yesterday. Lost all self-control, I did. I was in a hurry because some freezing rain was starting and I wanted to get home before things got bad. That means that I grabbed things without taking the time to talk myself out of them. Avoiding trips like that will help me with the healthy cooking stuff. If I don't have the junk in the house, I can't cook it.

I can take another look at the Parks & Rec brochure for aerobics classes. Maybe if they have classes that meet two days a week, I can plan to go just one day and eat the cost of the other day. Since they're Parks & Rec classes, they're not that expensive. I wonder where I put that brochure, anyway.

As for the reduced paperwork, I'm working really hard this week on catching up, and then keeping a little more on top of things. Hopefully, that will help in that area.

As for needing less sleep, I can't see any way to change that. Anyone have any advice on how to make yourself need less sleep? My body needs 8 1/2 to 9 hours a night and I can usually only manage 5 1/2 to 6 1/2.

I'd get a personal trainer--preferably one who came with a sharp stick to prod me into action every day.
Well at least the sharp stick is realistic and affordable

I am going looking on the web for a workout program site that will help me to figure out where I need to focus my efforts.

I want one where I enter the term "hips" and out would spew a custom made program for shapeup in that area.

There has to be something like that out there--there's everything else on the web.

Cyndi

Who forlornly notes that there are no cute trainers at the town weight room--else I'd probably go more often

I'm whining about it in the other Wednesday thread.

And, maybe we could all share a condo at some tropical place. It's gotta be better than Oregon in late November. Oh wait, this isn't the whining thread!

Cyndi, have you tried any of the workout tapes that target specific areas? I haven't, since I mostly sit on the couch and watch the video, but I wondered if they're any good?

Yes I have and I pretty much do basically the same thing you do with them...

No I need a tall blonde Nordic man with ice blue eyes named "Sven" to motivate me--I don't think I'd even need the stick at that point

Hardee har, you guys have me chuckling right off the bat this a.m.

Let's see....my fantasy yesterday:

Cute personal trainer: Dan would revolt
Workout room in the basement: No basement in the house.
Walks on the beach: Guess I'll just have to settle for the halls of the corporate kingdom.

Back to the drawing board. I think Cindy had the right idea by not posting until today.

Lynn
(It's darn cold out there today, NOONE in their right mind would be moving to Iowa in November)

Ok. I guess that instead of having someone to walk around holding my ped, I'll make one of those clippy things.

Haven't figured out the rest yet. Working on it.

Well, apparently I need to buy a house before I can do anything else. Right now I have no space for a dance floor. And I don't think my landlord would appreciate my putting a batting cage in his tomato patch.

At least I know I can keep up swing lessons (assuming they don't get cancelled -- see the whiner's thread). I'm probably going to start going out to dance, too, once I get to the "barely competent" level.

Basically, I just need to cut down on the fat that I eat. I really eat too much. Tonight, I ate my hubby's side dishes from his steak--we did Claim Jumper takeout. I had clam chowder and salad with full fat dressing. If that wasn't enough, I ate part of one of his onion rings, and I ate some creamed spinach. The fat in that creamed spinach was enough for two people for two days. I only ate about 1/4 of the spinach, but after the clam chowder (about half of which went to my daughter) and the full fat dressing, I shouldn't have eaten even that much. Basically, I should not eat out, but cook for myself. I need to eat more fiber and more vegetables, and less fat.
