"Now I know What Real Life Is Like"

I made my daughter spend her OWN money at the dollar store today, afterwards she tells me "Now I know what real life is like, you have to spend your own money on things"

Just wait until she grows up and has to pay bills!

Mine has been saving for weeks for Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Yesterday, he had enough to got to Target and get them and they were out of stock.

K-Mart - out of the one he wanted, but another style was in stock...however it was $5 more than he had saved.

Shopko - had the cards - a dollar more than he'd saved (he was saving for the Target price and Shopko was more expensive) but Daddy floated him the extra buck. The kid was jumping up and down.

Chris orders his cards from Yahoo shopping.

Got the three headed blue eyed dragon in a japanese deck.

I'm told this is a good thing.

Oh cripes...I had to listen to how great the "blue eyes white dragon" is all the way home from the store.

And how there is some other ULTIMATE blue eyes white dragon that can beat any card. That must be it.

I resisted the Pokemon cards. These things are going to do me in, I just know it.

What happened to good old baseball cards?

We did pokemon. He has the full set and is over it now. (When he sells it that money is MINE! I bought those gazillion booster packs.) Still running strong with Yu Gi Oh, goes to league and everything. Problem is he's been watching the older guys at league.

They play Magic - The Gathering.

Oh, but my son LIKES spending his own money at the store! I've managed to keep a lid on the "can I take a dollar and buy something with my own money" requests, but then I had to go and make it worse....

I've gotten big into couponing and saving on sales at various stores. This requires more shopping than most people do. With hubby's old job, I could cut out making the kids suffer with it by leaving Sean or both of them at home with him in the afternoon while I made a store run. But now that dh has a new job, he's gone the whole day. I do my best not to take them shopping too much, but sometimes it can't be avoided.

So, a couple of Saturdays ago, I needed to go to a Fred's store to get in on the last day of a really good sale. I decided to make Sean feel better by letting him do some coupons of his own - also teach him a money lesson while I was at it! After getting a bag of chocolate covered raisins, two packs of pudding, a packet of muffin mix (the kids love muffins!) and a can of beef stew for only $1.51, he's now hooked and begs me to gather up coupons just for him when we go shopping now!

Zachary loves spending his own money, too. He does great with it. He finds his object of desire and asks how many dollars it costs. Then he asks how many weeks allowance he needs to save to buy it. Then he chooses a cheaper toy that he can buy that day!
