| | Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | So today started off pretty normal, but Buster (3) wouldn't eat. No big. Then all he wants to do is lay around. Big. He's a whirling dervish of destruction. He said his tummy hurt, so I thought maybe he was constipated.
At about 7:00, I realized we've had no wet dipes all day. He ate a little bit, won't drink, and is complaining off and on about his "tummy" hurting, but I hear/feel no "movement" like you get with a stomach virus, which we all had two weeks ago and into last week.
I call the doctor and then insist I take his temp (he doesn't like anything in his mouth and I'm not about to try an ear thermometer since he has tubes). He had a temp of 104.
He wanted G to take him to the doctor (has been asking for G all day), and they had an appt. at 8:20 (and YES! I love my pediatrician's office... weeknight appts. til 9:00).
Now it's 9:53, and no word. That can't be good. I'm a worried wreck. |

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | Pippa. They are at the doctor. They are taking care of him. The doctor is wonderful and is finding the right meds and getting his fever down. He is with his daddy and they will call as soon as they can. He's obviously sick, but he's in very good hands! You take care of yourself and the other 2.5 kids, and let us know as soon as you hear anything!

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | Oh dear. Our doc has evening hours too, and are usually backed up late. Keep us posted.

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | I'm sure it's just taking a while - just imagine how backed up any doctor gets in the afternoon, then add on all those extra hours. Betcha he had to get a Rx filled, too, and good luck finding a pharmacy open this late.
But yeah, I'd be a nervous wreck, too! Hang in there!

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | I'd be calmer if G had his cell phone.
We live in a great area... not only is my ped open that late, but they also have an orthopaedic practice downstairs also open late. When Beanie broke her leg, we went in at 7, and she was examined, x-rayed, and casted by 8:30.
If the doctor's office is closed, we have an after-hours urgent care center just about three miles down the road from the doctor's office, which is two miles from our house. Knock wood, I haven't had to set foot in an ER with a child in almost two years. The after hours place is GREAT... fast service, and when Buster had RSV and had a resulting asthma attack, we got in, got a breathing treatment, had a chest x-ray, and were home within an hour and a half. Can't beat that!
There is a 24-hour pharmacy right in our town... I'm just not sure G remembers where it is!!! Hence, I'd be calmer if he had his cell phone.. at least I could feel in charge. |

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | And of course, as soon as I post that I'm freaking out, they come home... at 10 PM.
Turns out the doctor was SO backed up, when G signed in at 8:15, the 7:55 appt. hadn't even gone in yet.
Turns out the poor little guy has tonsillitis. Yay me for sending him to the dr... they gave him a dose of amoxicillin there and some ibuprofen (which I'd have given him sooner if he wasn't complaining about his stomach being upset!). He's still lethargic, but not moaning and crying. Phew.
Thanks for talking me down from the tree. |

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | Pippa,
This sounds like the same nasty bug Matthew had in February -- tonsillitis, bacterial, needed antibiotics, but so sick he had me scared enough to take a night off work.
He was better by the next morning. I hope your little guy will be too!
I hope it's not strep and I hope nobody else gets it.

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | Grrr... just double-checked with G who isn't always great at this doctor stuff, and they did the rapid test, and yes, it is strep. And I have the immune system of a petri dish when I'm pregnant. *sigh* |

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | LOL. I've found that most kids don't understand "throat" until they are about five or six. Beanie has progressed to "mouth hurts." Plus, if he has any kind of post-nasal drip going on, that could be enough to make you nauseous. I know it makes me naueous. I looked up the symptoms, and it did cover his fever, headache, not wanting to eat, etc.
Okay, thanks all... off to bed in case he needs me in the middle of the night. |

| | Re Just a Mama Freaking Out... | | What Judy said- all of the Horsemen had sore throats once in a while, but when the tummy complaints came, I knew we were dealing with strep again. Poor Buster, I hope he's better soon. And I hope that you manage to dodge it, Pippa.

Good news is he slept all night! Poor little thing must have been exhausted! I have a little bit of a sore throat today, but I swear it's psychosomatic. |
