And although I'm sure many of you won't be able to believe this, #2 was the child whose teacher and principal always called home, presumably to find out just what the heck we really did at home. I got a call from his kindergarten teacher:
"Mrs. N., do you have time to help us make a list of healthy choices for #2's snacks?"
I was really pleased. This call from a school which approved Fruit Rollups as a fruit.
"Sure! I always try to send nutritious foods and drinks to school."
Silence.
"Mrs. N., does #2 ever get to suggest things he'd like to eat and drink?"
I was really surprised. Anyone who's ever met #2 knows he has no problem with expressing his opinion. I reassured them that although he got to make requests, I was ultimately in charge of choosing.
Longer silence.
"Mrs. N., did you pack #2's snack this morning?"
"Yes, I always do. Is he hungry?"
"No....no, he isn't hungry. He might be thirsty, though. We couldn't allow him to drink the drink you sent."
At this point, I am totally

. He had apple juice, for heaven sakes!
"So, why can't you allow him to have his drink?"
Really long silence.
"Mrs. N., the principal and I think you need to be told that beer isn't an appropriate food choice for a 5 year old. We really need for you to not send beer to school with #2 again. #2 should never be allowed to drink beer even at home."
Ok - at this point, I didn't know what to do first- smack #2, or smack the #$@!!! kindergarten teacfher who was such a total moron that she'd believe #2 when he told her that his mom "...made me take beer to school".
