| | My son went to Bible Camp... | | ...which is really funny because we are so not religious. But his friend was going and he was asked to go along. The other two were invited, but declined.
So, today, he came home with a frisbee he made. (The theme of the camp this year is "Sports" so they do a different sports craft each day.) They used the sticky foam letters to decorate. Nicholas cut the letters to make guns, and his frisbee is of people shooting each other.
No wonder our neighbors keep trying to "save" us. LOL

I love your child - that is too funny!
One of the many times I got sent home from VBS (vacation Bible school) was for a poster I made. We were given magazines and were supposed to find one picture of people having fun, like on a vacation. The theme was supposed to be "Enjoying God's World With Friends". I cut out a picture of a lady serving her guests a tray of martinis beside her pool. I thought it looked like fun, I liked the cute little glasses. Mrs. Sellars, not so much. My parents got The Call. |

I don't know what's funnier... the frisbee or the fact that Cindy thought serving people a tray full of drinks was her idea of fun even back in VBS. |

We did NOT serve martinis to the kids at VBS, but I did feel like having a few at the end of the day.

| | Re My son went to Bible Camp... | | You have to remember that in those ads, the ladies all had cute shoes, pools and husbands who wore jackets to dinner. The ad I chose had the wife dressed in cute capris with a matching headband, something I thought was just beyond stylish then. And yes, the martinis sounded cool and grown-up, too. |

| | Re My son went to Bible Camp... | | I never got to go to VBS. I think I missed a big part of childhood. Maybe if hadn't lived so far out of town (1 mile) and my mom was a SAHM my life would have been different.
I want VBS!

| | Re My son went to Bible Camp... | | We didn't go to VBC. Only the "Protestants" went to VBS around here... oh, and the "weird" Catholics. I can't remember what they were called, but they weren't "real" Catholics in the eyes of my parents. |

| | Re My son went to Bible Camp... | | And then, of course, there was Southern Baptist Concentration Camp- I will always love Michael Thomas Ford for coming up with that. And the archery lessons, when we were supposed to be "taking aim at the sins of our hearts". Actually all of the girls just wanted to watch Marc the archery teacher's gifts from God... |

Too funny, you guys! We never went to Bible Camp either. I really never heard of it, but everyone I knew was either Jewish or Catholic.
Wormie, tell Brian that my niece and nephew go to a school with the motto "Warriors for Jesus!" I find that rather concerning, but their parents seem to think it's a good school.

There are some pretty militaristic Bible stories. | Our Catholic VBS program this year covered Joshua and the Battle of Jericho. Also Rahab (martinis anyone?) and Namaan.
We had lots of fun making the kids take their shoes off and walk through "marshy ground", squirting them with water, rubbing onion on them, and lots more exciting stuff.
Poor old Namaan had some spots
E-I-E-I-Eew!
He had lots and lots of spots
E-I-E-I-Eew!
God showed him what to do
God made Namaan good as new
God loved Namaan lots and lots
E-I-E-Yah-Hoo!
Western theme this year - Avalanche Ranch VBS.

| | Re My son went to Bible Camp... | | Our church's VBS this year was something to do with water... splash something.
I don't know.
I love it because where else can you dump your kids for 15 hours out of a summer week where they will get fed, play games, make crafts, have the fear of God instilled in them for anywhere from $0 to $15? (Although, those Catholics, Judy... $50! You better have been serving crabcakes!

They insist on "giving" everyone a T-shirt, a hat (cowboy hat this year), a CD with the music on it -- and using the packaged crafts. Also, unlike most Protestant churches, they insist that VBS has to pay for itself.
Personally, I'd like to see them drop the t-shirts and hats and lower the price. I'd also like to see them consider this evangelism and lower the price some more. To that end, I'm on the religious education committee, but I might have to run for parish council to actually have any serious input.
