| | ToysRUs just stepped up a few rungs | | I just got an email from the "chairman and CEO" of ToysRUs.
I think it's awesome what they are trying to do: See below:
We believe that when a product is recalled, the most important thing is to get that product out of children’s hands. To that end, we have instituted a "no quibble" policy when it comes to toy recalls. This means Toys"R"Us will take back recalled product whether it was purchased at Toys"R"Us or not - with or without a receipt.
We are working in partnership with federal legislators to advocate for more funding and staffing for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the government regulator responsible for toys. We are also advocating for the introduction of production code stamping of products, so retailers and consumers can easily identify specific items should they be recalled.

Considering that they are one of the highest priced retailers though, I think they will be taken advantage of. If I were an unscrupulous person, I'd take the toy I bought at WallyWorld for $10 back to ToysRUs for $20.

| | Re ToysRUs just stepped up a few rungs | | I think they would contemplate that will happen, especially when word gets out.
And, unfortunately, there are a tremendous amount of unscrupulous people out there.
I was flabergasted by them when I worked retail!

| | Re ToysRUs just stepped up a few rungs | | I doubt you'll be able to walk out with cash unless you have a receipt. More likely store credit. They're probably counting on people to spend that and a few dollars more - still, it's a generous offer.

| | Re ToysRUs just stepped up a few rungs | | What Judy said. They'll give the lowest sale price - probably as a store credit. They'll get a tremendous amount of good will about it, and they'll be able to write off the loss. It's good business. |

| | Re ToysRUs just stepped up a few rungs | | One of my sons worked in Toys R Us while in college, and the store he worked for was great.
First of all, they had college tuition reimbursement, even for part-time employees. He had a scholarship, but took advantage when he had to spend an extra semester.
Secondly, his store had 'raffles' every month. If you worked 100 hours that month, you got 100 tickets. If you worked 150 hours, you got 150 tickets. They would 'raffle' all the items that had been returned during the months that couldn't go back on the shelves (most, apparently.) He won a Playstation 2, a bike, and numerous video games.
He was employee of the month a number of times, and, as I recall, he was making about $8 an hour in the late 1990's.
As I said, it was a good place to work.... | | |
