Christmas Eve. My clean-freak inlaws are sitting in my living room when my oldest comes upstairs and announces, " Dad, there is something growing in my bathroom sink."
Ugh. Of course, this is the only room in the house that I did not clean carefully, believing that no one would be going in there. My first thought was mold, or something of a similar nature. Don't get me wrong- I clean the bathroom, but with my kids you never know what has found it's way into their room.
Mold would have been too easy. No, I have multiple sunflower plants growing out of my children's sink drain. The leaves had just cleared the drain plug, apparently.
Nikki, age 5, had made a picture of a sunflower at her gardening class this summer and had used sunflower seeds to make the center of the picture. The last anyone saw of it, the picture was residing in their bedroom. Apparently it made its way to the sink and some of the seeds "fell" into the drain. Somehow they stayed put and sprouted from the moisture.
This morning,DH pulled apart the sink and removed the remainder of the plants. They are fully sprouted and have a great network of roots, just in case I want to stick them in some dirt and replant them outside in the spring...
