| | How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | Do you have an earlier party with your toddlers?
Do you just skim over the New Year?
What do you (or did you do) do special to mark this change of calendar year for the tiny tikes at your place?

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | Bad Mom of the Year here, but if Jer took a nap during the day, he could stay up. He's a night owl though, and I seem to remember there were years that he outlasted me.
We also always had "special glasses" and "special drink" (non alcoholic for the kids) at midnight. Sometimes party hats. Now-a-days, we just skip the hats and light off fireworks.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | We started a tradition the year I was pregnant with Beanie and couldn't go out anywhere that we get Chinese for dinner and hang out here with movies. We'll let them stay up a LITTLE bit late, and they can have some sparkling juice I nabbed for them, but they won't last til midnight. Then tomorrow, we go to my parents for a little party. |

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | I should add that I USUALLY have party stuff, but didn't bother this year. When my sister's kids are here for NYE, there are 7, so one of those 10-packs work well. When it's just us, not so much. |

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | When our kids were little they used to love NYE. We would "plan" hor'dorve type munchies--which to them was a big deal. They each made 1 thing, we got the sparkling juice, and let them use the "big people's" glasses. Usually they were long asleep before midnight--we would wake them for the "moment", they would have their drink and go right back to sleep.
As they went through their teens it got very different. We, (Mom and Dad) are still at home, and they are going out. Last year Marissa was recovering from surgery, so she didn't go out. I miss the days when they were younger.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | We used to let the kids stay up as late as they could stand to. Now the littlest is 12, so they can pretty much outlast us.
I got what I though was sufficient munchies, but my oldest started fixing them about 40 minutes ago and we'll run out before his brother leaves for work at 10 at the rate they're going. They might have to resort to using a recipe or something.
The horror.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | We celebrate the New York midnight with the kids (munchies, sparkly juice etc), then ship them off to bed. This year the 8 year old is arguing that, despite not taking a nap, she should be allowed to celebrate the Minnesota Midnight. *sigh* I'm not sure that I am going to make it until midnight, muchless her! |

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | It seemed like "Planet of the Apes" was lasting forever. I just figured out that it's not my imagination.
They have watched the first 4 Planet of the Apes movies and the 5th and final is about to come on.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | I bought a few kinds of really good cheeses, I'll open something yummy to go with for Helen, #1 and me and the kids will have sparkling pear juice. If anyone' still awake at midnight, I have a really nice bottle of sparkling wine, and everyone can have a little sip. |

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | My kids just went off to a party. I made a frittata for hubby and I for dinner. Something different. I made another major mess in the kitchen tho.
Time to party.

We're having Japanese here. I asked Hubby what he wanted for our midnight snack, he said "sushi." The local place we go to made up a little platter for us (really good-looking assortment of sushi and sashimi) and we just got back from picking it up. :lick: It'll be hard keeping Hubby away from the refrigerator until 11ish.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | It's only 10:15 here and I am feeling tuckered! Babester is in bed, she watched Shrek 2 on local channel and we let her stay up til after 9 watching it, getting ready for bed, etc. But, she's been up since 5:30. Should be an interesting and possibly moody day tomorrow (lack of sleep bug).
She doesn't nap, fights it like everything & tries super duper hard to stay up late all of the time. She's only 4 1/2, so, 9 is really late for her!
We did nothing special, no treats, no special meals. I will have to change that next year I think. Hopefully, it will be a better year. This whole holiday season for me was almost depressing. I did not want to do much, did not find any joy in decorating, shopping or anything. It was like a chore.
I did love watching the babester open her gifts though.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | I whined enough about the Planet of the Apes series that my husband put on Battlestar Galactica instead.
Like that's better. That was followed by a couple hours of an old 24 series, then Mythbusters. NEXT year I may go out somewhere - that or have more alcohol in the house regardless of whether anyone else is drinking. That was my mistake. If I'd had enough to drink, Planet of the Apes might have been more enterataining.

| | Re How do you celebrate the New Year with little ones? | | Happy New Year! I celebrated by watching the little guys make faces at their teensy sip of champagne. I followed that up by making them all go outside to salt the sidewalk. Apparently, the storm we were expecting for Thiursday has arrived, and we're expecting 10 to 12 incehs by Wednesday. | |
