| | Have you ever heard of anything like this?
We started getting this mottled look on the babester's skin Friday on the back mostly.
Saturday, it seemed to be spreading a little, but nothing bad, it was somewhat visible, but not really red or itchy, no temperature at all.
Sunday, seemed to be spreading to upper arms, buttocks and upper legs, sometimes in spots looking like a small zit was forming, but it was not everywhere.
Moday, more redness (especially when hot), spreading around more on the trunk, cheeks, behind the ears, buttocks, legs, arms. Doctor said it appears to be a virus that is causing hives.
She has had mild cough/sneezing and now is getting a runny nose, but again, no real temperature, she was up to 99.2 earlier tonight.
She states it's not itchy, but it's everywhere.

| | When Kareem was little, he used to break out in funky rashes or hives whenever he got a virus. Some of them were outright gruesome looking.
Hope she feels better soon.

| | Is it lacey looking? If so it could be 5th disease. Nothing you can do about it--the rash is the last step. My kids went through it when they were younger.

| | I was just going to say 5th diease. Not scary, and doesn't last too long.
OTOH, #1 got hives when he was getting sick- still does. Funnily enough, he's the only one of the boys to not have 5th disease. |

| | The doctor looked at it and did not think it was 5th disease (that's what we originally thought it was too).
Do they last while the virus lasts or how long does it last?

| | All I know is what our doctor told me. The "rash" is the last phase of the disease--it is not the contagious part. My kids were never sick. They just had this funky looking rash, and got sent home from school with a paper that I had to have signed by our doctor. He was annoyed said the office visit wasn't necessary--I didn't care because I needed to know it was nothing to be concerned about.
On the other hand, my son used to be the strep king. He would break out in a rash, and I would take him to the doc for the rash, and it was strep.

| | As long as it's not itchy, it should go away on its own. Viral rashes are really common.
Matthew got a rash a few months ago that was VERY itchy and we had to hit it with major antihistamines to get it under control. Viral at the start, but self-perpetuating if you scratch. NO fun.

| | Thank you all. It's not itchy, which is nice, but it looks strange. Behind the ears, sometimes really prominent on her cheeks, but mostly on the trunk, arms, buttocks and legs.
Hopefully, it will start going away soon! We got a small benefit of tylenol plus runny nose/cold stuff, it has a bit of anti-histamine in it and it seemed to reduce the redness somewhat.

| | I have to say... knock wood, I have not gotten 5th. I HAVE, however, gotten hand, foot & mouth EVERY FREAKING TIME one of the kids has gotten it. For some reason, I don't ever gain immunity. |

| | And Helen, I don't know. If another kid gets it, I may try that, seeing as I've had it three times in the past 5 or 6 years. Two of the times it was so bad I couldn't even walk... I thought I had burned my feet. |

Note that it's all about kids under 5. I'm NOT under 5. Good news is that all the kids seemed to get it as toddlers/preschoolers, so I'm NEARLY done. Just gotta get through Butter and I should be good until grandbabies, who live in their OWN homes, knock wood. | | |
