| | Freeverse card players? | | I play solo Freeverse cards, mostly Spades, but with a side interest in Hearts, frequently. I'm far too chicken (or duck) to venture into the online Gamesmith games by myself.
I'd have to make new friends. Why bother when I like the friends I have?
Anybody else into Freeverse games? Anybody so crazy about Spades that he/she would like to be into Freeverse Spades? ( I heart Spades.... get it, heart Spades???) http://download.freeverse.com/
Howabout long walks on the beach? Candlelit dinners?
Please reply to POB 213423.

I can do Hearts. I'm not nearly as good at it though.
Do you play Queen of Spades = +13, Jack of Diamonds = -11, and Shoot the Moon? There are so many variations on the rules. That's my favorite way to play. (Even if I'm not great at it.) I don't know why I like playing with Shoot the Moon because I can't Shoot the Moon to Save my Life.

| | I hearts.
I used to play it all summer long when I was a teenager. My friends and I were absolutely cut throat.
Never heard the Jack of Diamond rule though. But, Shoot the Moon? Is there any other way to play?

| | The Jack of Diamond rule is a "must" because the Jack typically goes at the very end of the hand, unless the person who has the Jack is really short on diamonds. That keeps every trick interesting, even after the Queen is gone. It's maddening because capturing the Jack is very unpredictable, and holding onto the Jack if you are dealt it is, well, um "tricky".
Here's the deal with Freeverse Gamesmith, as I understand it:
You get to play online, for free, with your friends. Set up your own gameroom. You can set up your own iPuppet, with your face if you like, and you all sit around a virtual card table and play and chat. It sounds like a bunch of fun.
At this point, I'm just jabbering, trying to see if we've got other card players here. I was really hoping that somebody would say "Oh! I play online at Gamesmith all the time. I'll set up a room, come on by." (Hey, a girl can hope.)
I still haven't made my own iPuppet with my face. (Not necessary, but that has to be fun, right?) I have no idea what kind of technical issues you run into when you actually play online.
You don't need 4. You can play with their puppets (who are pretty intelligent players) at any open positions.
Anyway, that's pretty much all I know. Freeverse used to be Mac only, but they have Windows versions of the key games. Free download, $14.95 (I think) after the demo expires.
If people are interested, we could try to put a game together. (I do love Spades more than Hearts, but that's mostly because I'm too lazy to count every card which kills you in Hearts. In Spades, all you have to do is count the Spades.)

| | I play with the Queen of Spades rule, and Shoot the Moon, but not the Jack of Diamonds. Having the Jack makes the game go on way too long.
Spades is fun, too, though, but Hearts is more fun because you can drop the "bitch" on people. Boo-yah.
Why not meet on chat one evening and set up a game on Yahoo?

Sounds like fun to me. Do we have to have our own foursome on Yahoo?

| | Shoot the moon or a moon run, as I've also heard it called, is when one player manages to get every single point in a hand. It's tough to do because you have to catch all the other players off guard.
The benefit is that you either (depending on whose rules you're playing) get to subtract 26 points from your total or add 26 to everyone elses.

Andrea | No. But it's much better that way. I don't play cards on Yahoo too often because the company's too iffy; you never can tell if you're going to get some idiot sitting down at your table. It's much better to get a foursome together, get a private table at Yahoo, and deal.

| | Cool. We'll look for a foursome and try to put a time together. The way things are going for me right now, I think the only time I could commit to would be on the weekends...either that or really late at night.
'twould be really fun to have a group of friends who like to play cards. I adore playing cards, but Don and I lost our Spades buddies to childbearing a couple of years ago. We only get to play with them maybe a couple of times a year now.
Andrea
who can do hearts but hearts Spades

| | Non-weekends would have to be 10PM + to guarantee I could keep my commitment.
Weekends could be pretty much anytime.
Oh God, I just started organizing something, didn't I? I have been so irresponsible the last months, this could backfire.
All right, let me give it a try. We'll get a roll call.

Chime in. Add the best time for you, and let's see what happens. Organizing things such as this often doesn't work out, for one reason or another, but I'm game to give it a try.
I spade Hearts.

| | I never heard of freeverse, but I was quite the Hearts fiend when I was in high school. (I wasn't good -- I just liked to play it all the time.) I'd like to try the Yahoo thing, if I can get my antique computer to cooperate.

| | This is how it works.
1. Pick a time. (Hell, we could go tonight.)
2. Someone takes responsibility for setting up the table on Yahoo. (AND setting up the rules.)
3. That someone informs the rest (in EA chat?) of where the table is.
4. The other players go to the room where the table is.
5. The leader invites them to the table.
Easy-peasy.
