Online D&D

So, I've been doing a little bit of research on how to host an online d&d game in a forum. I have a couple questions for anyone who thinks they might be interested:

1. For character stats, would you prefer a point-based system? Honor system where you roll 4d6 and drop the lowest? Assigned random rolls? Character stats--what are those?

2. What is your preference: high fantasy? low-magic? political intrigue? hack and slash? Arthurian?

3. Have you ever heard of Forgotten Realms? Do you have any feelings about it?

1. I have no dice so whatever you tell me, I've got.

2. Anything but hack-n-slash. Sounds too much like a town in Jersey.

3. Never and none

2. What is your preference: high fantasy? low-magic? political intrigue? hack and slash? Arthurian? high fantasy

3. Have you ever heard of Forgotten Realms? Do you have any feelings about it? Yes but found it quite dull of course that might be because I was so used to the old ways

Re: Online D&D

Oh, I should explain that a point-based system would involve giving everyone the same number of points and each person could divide those points up among their stats in whatever way they wish (with some limitations). While that makes things well-balanced, it also makes the party a little less diverse.

I agree with that train of thought

Umm ... fantasy ... I think.

No. Is "curious" a feeling?

Count me in as an interested D&D newbie.

Re: Online D&D

1. I don't have dice, which would make that option tricky ... anything else is fine.

2. Like JP, anything but hack 'n' slash.

3. Yep, I've heard of that ... never played, but read about it in Dragon Magazine.

Re: Online D&D

I'm not playing, but I did a long time ago. I think you all will be happy with some sort of automation, throughout. It will be very tough to manage dice, etc. across the net.

I've never been a fan of the point system for the same diversity concerns, but I don't have time to play, so ignore me if you wish

Re: Online D&D

There is actually a dice rolling system online that you can use and it mails the results to the interested parties. I'll just have to find it again.

Re: Online D&D

I'm interested, and I'll go with anything.

That email dice rolling sounds interesting! What a neat idea. Mediated dice rolling!

I like high fantasy, low magic, political intrigue.. I like pretty much anything, but political intrigue is my favorite.
