The Worst Dreck I've Seen Recently

Cindy's reference to Runaway Bride in another thread remeinded me that there have been a couple movies in the last few years that I saw, against my own better judgement, that were so bad I really, honestly, wanted to break out tomatoes and start throwing them at the screen.

Double Jeopardy was so utterly horrendous that I would love to write a scathing review of it, but I'm not willing to actually watch it all the way to the end...necessary, I guess, when writing a review.

Runaway Bride was everything that a formula romance movie shouldn't be. I enjoy romantic fluff movies. I'm the market for romantic fluff movies. That movie was a large piece of doo-doo. I loathe that movie!!!

U.S. Marshalls (yet another huge waste of Tommy Lee Jones), couldn't have been a worse follow up to one of my favorite films. Crushing disappointment.

True Crime Feh! What a completely implausable plot!

What's the common thread here? Why did these movies make me mad? I felt like they were lazy and sloppy and an insult to the intelligence. I am perfectly willing to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy a movie. Pretty Woman, I really enjoyed that movie, and c'mon, you can't get much more implausible.

Maybe it is the combination of implausible plot and the going-thru-the-motions feel of each of these that made me so mad. For so many millions of dollars, don't you think they could have tried just a little bit harder?

So, what's your rant?

Andrea

Spawn should never have been made. I still can't believe that our president (Martin Sheen) signed up for it. Poor D.B. Sweeney was stuck in it, too.

eplovejoy is an unknown quantity at this point

The one from about a year or two ago in which Rupert Everett and Madonna have a child is so bad I've mercifully forgotten its name. It is so awful it hurts to think about it, especially to think of the many good movies that could have been made with its budget.

I had the misfortune of going to see Lara Croft, Tomb Raider with my daughter last Saturday.

All of the explosions and none of the charm of Indiana Jones.

What is this world coming to when movie producers buy film rights to video games instead of books?

Hey, wait a minute! U.S. Marshals was a pretty decent flick!

As a B-movie critic, I had to watch some of the WORST movies made on the face of this planet.

Manos: The Hands of Fate was the stupidest piece of junk I had ever laid my eyes on. Immediately after finishing that flick, I wanted to wash my eyes out!

Guinea Pig: Flowers of Flesh and Blood is absolutely the most disgusting piece of garbage I have ever seen. It is a series of gross-out special effects with no plot or redeeming values.

Also, just watch any movie directed by Albert Pyun . He is one of the finest hack filmmakers in the world.

Speaking of "Eueeeeeeeewwwwwwwww"...

The Perfect Storm ranks right up their amongst the really rank.

Well as long as you don't count special effects (and I am not)

I knew it was time to walk when Boston native Mark Wahlberg opened his mouth and couldn't pull off a convincing Boston accent.

I stayed however because I am a weak woman with the "hots" for George Clooney.

Shame on me.

Really? I never read any reviews of it...maybe some people did like it. I know someone who raved about True Crime too.

First of all, my standards for Tommy Lee Jones are pretty high. I love that guy, I hate to see him in substandard surroundings.

I think my conclusion that U.S. Marshalls was putrid was the sequel factor. The Fugitive is one of my all time favorite flicks. U.S. Marshalls felt like a cheap attempt to capitalize on that, poorly, and a waste of Jones' time. I mean, exactly how many completely and compellingly innocent people does one dude get to hunt down? I couldn't suspend my disbelief; they were asking too much of me.

I guess it would have been worse if they brought Harrison Ford back in the sequel and had him framed for murder again.
