| | Now that we're near the midway point, I thought I'd take a quick poll of what everyone is reading (or plans to read before Labor Day). I usually find that my Winter Reading is easier to find time for than my Summer Reading. With about 20 hours of daily daylight up here in Alaska, we're constantly on the go and it's difficult to curl up with some quiet time.
Nonetheless, I'm hoping to get these books read in the next two months: Lost Nation by Jeffrey Lent Quietus by Vivian Schilling The Hermit's Story by Rick Bass The Phantom Limbs of the Rollow Sisters by Timothy Schaffert

| | I’ve been meaning for years to get around to reading some of Trollope’s novels and have recently started with one of his later ones, The Way We Live Now.
I’ve been reading a lot of non-fiction lately, mostly about the Civil War era, and hope to find time soon for Lee’s Lieutenants. Also been doing a bit of reading on futurology; the last book that I finished was The Fourth Turning.

| | I'm still deeply mired in trying to read the classics and have a box of books under my bed from last year's book sale... and this year's book sale is in 3 weeks. If you can't find me, I'll be buried under a pile of paperbacks

| | --This Summer I'm trying to keep an open mind and sample some of Oprah's Book Club Books.....I dunno
1. "Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver----I'm almost half through, barely, and trying desperately not to give up and junk this novel.
2. "White Oleander" by Janet Fitch---I'm already 3/4 done and I know I will finish this. Great!!!
3. "The Cottage" by Danielle Steel---Surprisingly good, but I'm only 70 pages in to it yet.
4. "Passion of Artemisia" by Susan Vreeland---I've already finished this brilliant novel and planning on re-reading a second time. |

| | My summer reading list consists of feminist criticism and separatist utopias. Unfortunately I'm not getting a break from grad school. Fortunately, I happen to like my thesis topic.
I have 8 books on my desk right now, two more to pick up this morning, and two more on request with interlibrary loan. I won't bore you all with the titles.
As for pleasure reading, I have gotten to the newest Stephanie Plum novel and I sneaked in Vicky Bliss mystery as well.

| | I'm outside as much as possible working on my garden. However, I am going to find a copy of 'At Swim, Two Boys' soon. I absolutely cannot wait to read this after reading Peter's (eplovejoy) brilliant review of it.
At the moment, I'm reading a biography of Oscar Wilde, and it's great!

| | I am currently evaluating Attila: King of the Huns by Patrick Howarth for possible use for home schoolers (high school level) and re-reading Treasures of Darkness by Thorkild Jacobsen for a probable Epinions review. Not too many new books right now. |

| | I've done a fair bit of rereading. Read the four Harry Potters again (where is five, dammit). Read all of Bujold's Vorkosigan books again. Read all of Prydain again. Read L'Engle's Time Trilogy again. In the middle of Narnia now. Dunno why but I'm in the mood for old friends.

| | I've actually taken up book two in J. Gregory Keyes' "The Age of Unreason" series (recommendation from an EQ friend of mine!) and they're quite interesting & fun - perfect summertime reading. | | |
