| | Actually this is rather old news. (Following written by someone who used to run a church book table. Great job. Every two months 4-6 cases of book delivered to my apartment for me to read/skim, put prices on.....)
But 6 years ago Christian Book Distributor's fiction catalog was half romance -- especially romatic historical fiction.
But personally I don't like romance stories......
just me

| | I agree with Bridgette. This is yesterday's wave. But maybe it's a case of "everything old is new again"??
When I lived in Eugene, Oregon in the mid-80s, I was a cook at a restaurant owned by the president of Harvest House Publishers, a Christian book house which made a tidy sum off of Christian romances (though they were perhaps a little tamer than the ones mentioned in this article). In fact, the "Christian romance novel" goes as far back as George MacDonald (perhaps even further) who wrote "The Fisherman's Lady," among others. MacDonald (1824-1905) was a popular Scottish lecturer and writer of novels, poetry, and fairy tales and was a heavy influence on C.S. Lewis.
Among modern authors, Janette Oke is quite popular. And I'm sure there are others, but my brain is just not functioning on all pistons right now. |

| | There are many different kinds of specialty romance novels. I remember reading an article once about a romance writer who specialized in romances with plus-size heroines. |

| | My grandmother gave me her entire collection of Grace Livingston Hill books--they were definitely Christian romances. Alas, I lost the whole collection in a basement flood.
They were the only romances I've ever really read (with a few exceptions awhile ago). I keep telling myself I ought to broaden my horizons, but the genre keeps getting pushed back behind the stuff I know I like.
I enjoyed the first couple Grace Livingston Hill books, but then they all started to sound exactly alike.

| | I've read some of Francine Rivers stuff (author mentioned in the article) and found it to be very passionate and romantic without being at all "obscene" or graphic.
Romance can be clean, and Christians can enjoy it. I know I sure do!
