Any other Stephen King fans out there???

...I got Wolves of the Calla for Christmas. I'm deliberately taking my time to make it last.

Anyone else finished it and want to share some palaver?

How about the new SK series I just saw advertised on (CBS???) this spring. Any word on that yet???

Lyn

Ahhh....yeah! I finished Wolves of Calla a while ago. Very good book...I liked it better than Wizard & Glass by a long shot.

Needless to say, I'm a SK fan. A huge, massive, mega SK fan. I haven't seen the ad for the miniseries you speak of, but I'm assuming it's Kingdom Hospital which is in reality based on a highly successful miniseries from Scandinavia called The Kingdom. If that's indeed what you're speaking of, I've seen the original. Expect some twisted fun (as usual in the SK universe).

Re: Any other Stephen King fans out there???

Kingdom Hospital is indeed the name of the series. I think it's a weekly series, not just a mini-series. Should be interesting.

I enjoyed Wizard & Glass. It's been a while since I've reread the entire DT series, but it all comes back. I had read a clip from Wolves a while back on King's official web site, and laughed out loud when I realized who Old Fella was. I love the way King weaves his characters in and out of his stories. I always wonder if he goes into a story thinking about who can pop in, or if it "just happens".

I'm a total freak. One of my friends who didn't realize it and is a casual reader got me started with an offhand comment one day. Halfway through the conversation, she gave me a really odd look, sort of backed away and said "You really are into this stuff, aren't you?"

Have you gotten Robin Furth's Dark Tower: A Concordance guide? It's a great, readable guide that King asked her (a teaching assistant in Maine) to write to help him in writing the final three books in the series. It's really incredible and should help to make the reading of the books easier (especially when you consider the LARGE number of pages in the series thus far). Plus, it's kind of fun in a really trivial sort of way!

I like King and I've read most of his stuff, but it varies considerably in quality. I just read From A Buick 8 and it left me completely cold. I didn't care for it all. On the other hand, I really liked The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.

Haven't seen it. Will have to go check it out. Just noticed in the "Also by" page of WotC that the books related to DT series are bolded. Tons of them.

Hymie, if you liked Tom Gordon, check out The Eyes of the Dragon. It's more "fantasy" than TG, but not as out there as some of King's coke-related books.

Oh, I love The Eyes of the Dragon!

I like SK. I've read most of his horror stuff (and I'm not usually a horror reader), but oddly enough I haven't cared much for the DT series. I *like* it, just not enough to *care* about keeping up with it.

Just finally got around to reading Dead Zone a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Any other Stephen King fans out there???

Yeah. I agree that some of his books aren't as good a quality (which, I suppose, happens when you've written so many novels) but I've always gotten a great kick out of The Talisman (though not so much Black House), Pet Semetary, The Stand, Different Seasons, Skeleton Crew (The Mist, baby!), Dark Tower series (of course), It, and Desperation/The Regulators.

Re: Any other Stephen King fans out there???

The Mist is one of those that really creeps me out.

Pet Sematary is probably the only book I've ever read that has scared me so bad that I had to periodically put it down. Of course, after reading 'Salem's Lot for the first time, I wouldn't sleep without a cross in my hands for months (true story )

I absolutely hated Tommyknockers, it's one of the few that I refuse to re-read. Dreamcatchers reminded me way too much of Tommyknockers. Haven't read Dark Half for some time, I remember that I didn't like it much, but I picked it up at a used bookstore not too long ago and will re-read it.

Re: Any other Stephen King fans out there???

I liked the Dark Half fine enough. Kind of really liked the whole evil twinner thing come to life. But the movie creeped me out more than the actual book I think...

Re: Any other Stephen King fans out there???

I finished Wolves last night.

I do not like the direction we seem to be going in. I detest books that turn out to have cheap parlor tricks in them....and I feel like that's where King is taking this series.

Now I have to wait until August to see if the trick gets any better. Maybe it's time to write Steve another letter (which I did back in '82?) when I read Pet Sematary and couldn't figure out how I'd missed this "Dark Tower" thing he referenced on his "other works" page.

Anyone else here like From a Buick 8?

I loved it. Next on the list is Wolves.
