Pretty skimpy at the moment, it seems, but I think they haven't been around long. Might be worth checking out.

| | What about comic books?
I don't read them myself. I know they're not literature.
But when we're talking about improving basic reading skills in boys, and getting them interested in reading, comic books can be a big help.
I think that sometimes when we discourage kids (or boys) from reading things we think are beneath them, we prevent them from acquiring the skills that will make reading easy enough for them to seek out more challenging things.
My boys read comic books (as well as other things, and neither ever had a reading problem.) My daughter still enjoys those Archie annuals you see at the supermarket checkout once in awhile.
If they had read nothing but comic books, I would have been concerned. But as an occasional treat there's nothing wrong with them. |

| | My son is currently obsessed with Peanuts. That is pretty much ALL he reads right now. It could be worse, so - shrug.
So, Eye, why don't you take our thread's little list of books and send it to GuysRead? From what I remember from looking at the site over there yesterday, any thread involving "good books for ______" would easily double or triple what they've got over there right now. And might actually get read by more than the 30-50 people who would see it here.

| | Weeeell, first of all, the individual contributors to that thread might not want their posts quoted elsewhere. And secondly, I'd much rather that they drive traffic to us. But I'll bring it up with the PTB. |

| | I checked out the GuysRead site and of course, sent him some recommendations (from when I was a guy).
And then checked the link to the books for boys thread -- Curtis, you are a treasure! (And of course, this site being a major refuge for the Books people at Eps, you can always count on good recommendations.)
And I just thought of something else to recommend to that Guy.
