Word/Author Association: Science Fiction

What are the first ten names that come into your mind when someone mentions science fiction writers? You don't have to like them or even have read them. Who do you think of?

I'll post the first ten that pop into my head in a separate post so that I don't influence your associations.

LOL! I'm definately not a sci-fi type, and the only one I could think of was Isaac Asimov, but then I wasn't sure, so I didn't post till I saw that you posted him. I feel validated! I've never even heard of most of the writers on your list.

Re: Word/Author Association: Science Fiction

I could probably spew out several hundred names without thinking about it, but here are the first 10:

Isaac Asimov
Robert Heinlein
Alfred Bester
Poul Anderson
Robert Silverberg
Frederick Pohl
Theodore Sturgeon
Harlan Ellison
Gregory Benford
Larry Niven

Interestingly very few of my favorites made it onto that list

Re: Word/Author Association: Science Fiction

Isaac Asimov
Orson Scott Card
Poul Anderson
Arthur C. Clarke
Anne McCaffrey (I know a lot of hers tends toward the sub-genre of fantasy/sci-fi, but she has a lot of straight sci-fi, too)
Ursula K. LeGuin

Wow, these lists of 10 are hard! That's only 6 there, and since sci-fi is my other favorite genre (tying with Mystery) then I know that I know more people than that, I just can't think of them at the moment!

Oh, I just remembered two more that I thought of last night but couldn't remember this morning:

Phillip K. Dick
Phillip Jose Farmer

Re: Word/Author Association: Science Fiction

I know what you mean, Melanie. I thought they would be easy, but I find myself thinking of titles and then struggling to remember who wrote them.

I'm finding it interesting, though, to see what names are popping up.
