Word/Author Association: Women's fiction

What are the first ten names that come into your mind when someone mentions women's writers? I forget exactly what it's called. Someone once said the definition was that there was a shoe or a purse on the cover. They're popular stuff right now.

Who do you think of?

I'll post the first ten that pop into my head in a separate post so that I don't influence your associations.

Re: Word/Author Association: Women's fiction

Not all of mine will qualify, but I'll jump in anyway:

1. The author of the Bridget Jones diary
2. Toni Morrison (definitely doesn't qualify, but this is association, right?)
3. Jodi Picoult
4. Anita Diamant
5.

That's all I could come up with.

Do you mean Chick Lit? Have no idea who the major writers are.

I can name tons of writers who are women, but not so many who write chicklit or romance. Hmmm...

1. Diana Gabaldon
2. Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
3. Judith Merkle Riley
4. Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels
5. Nora Roberts
6. Fern Michaels
7. Maeve Binchy
8. Helen Fielding
9. Joyce Carol Oates (not really chicklit...)
10. Jean M. Auel

Re: Word/Author Association: Women's fiction

I think I just picked up a couple of these by somebody. She teaches women's literature so that should be a red flag. heh.
I would add Alice McDermott and Nuola O'fololo (What little I've read seems pretty girly too.)

There. That's all that's in my head.
